cracked j frame
Saw a post on another forum about cracked n-frames, newer lightweight models. so tonight i took my everyday carry out and looked at the frame, below where the forcing cone is located, and sure as shoot, a big, fat crack the whole length of the frame. Gun is a 13 year old Airweight 642, carried more than any other gun and very accurate. my favorute gun.
looks like a call to S&W is in order tomorrow morning.

HOLD it, is the "crack" on the bottom of the strap, or right through to the top, Bottom only is very normal, it is where the "flash" hits, and is not a big concern unless it gets to the top of the strap. This is why you should not shoot +p or mag in a light frame.
When you consider buying a used Rev, that is the very first place you should look. The deeper the strike mark there, the more use the gun has had.
In reality, this is where the flame and molten lead hits the strap, and it is not a failure in the firearm but a process that just has to happen.Skeet is a sport where you are better to hit half of each bird then completely blast one and miss the other completely.

Re: cracked j frame
Well then if its the frame you should definitely stop using it, Probably a good thing to writ to the Maker of the firearm for instructions. IE: if its a S&W ask them about it. If it was not abuse they will probably exchange it, if it was abuse or using loads higher then recommended you will be SOL.
If thats the case, look for a gun buy back and get what you can for her, there is not much else to do. You could also sell for parts, but using as is if it is truly cracked is creating an opportunity for an accident to happen.Skeet is a sport where you are better to hit half of each bird then completely blast one and miss the other completely.

Don't get too excited too fast about that stellar S&W service. Once their smiths look at the gun, they may send you an invoice. They did when the frame on my 6906 cracked.
I fought it for three months and eventually got in touch with the VP of Operations. Only then, did they replace the frame at no charge.
