There aren't any specific laws pertaining to the city that I know of and preemption would nullify them anyway, except of course your standard "no discharge" ordinances. If possible, I'd try to not move into the city but in one of the smaller towns in the county.

What he said. Seriously, the city is crap. Unless you bought, you can find just as affordable rentals outside the city. Look at Leola, Rohrerstown,East Pete even Bridgeport heading towards the outlets. Lampeter ... The list goes on. I have been into the city a handful of times in the past few years. Nothing to see there. Good luck and welcome.

The mayor of Lancaster City is big time anti gun. If he had it his way, guns would be banned in the city.

Stay out of the city if you can avoid it. There's lots of other towns in the area that are better choices.

First of all welcome not only to the forum but to a "free" state, "as long as Philly stays out of it". My suggestion is to rent or lease for one year and your wife will have a different attitude towards the city and you'll be able to move out in the countryside................good luck..........

Small towns in Lancaster are very nice. I'm in Landisville, I can walk to the drugstore, convenience store, pizza shop, and beer distributor. The closest grocery store is 2 miles, Walmart is 5 and the mall is about 4. Oh yeah, there's a bar/grill in town too.

What is your wife gaining by living in the city?

    Anyhow, Welcome!

Has she ever been to Lancaster city before? I'd barely even consider it a city. Definitely nothing special about it, unless she likes cockroaches. Is there a specific reason that she's only in agreement to move to Lancaster city?

Quite a few local towns were already mentioned by other members that are rather close and very nice areas.

I agree stay out the city.

Fortunately, the COUNTY sheriff issues permits and while located in the city is not a city official. I would contact the sheriff's office re your permit. I suspect you can just drop in and have it transferred to whatever becomes your new address. Sheriff Reese seems to be on our side and not into making it tough to get permit. Link to sheriff's office.
