My new Model 66
Just picked up a new (to me) S&W Model 66 no dash, 4" barrel. Serial number says its a 74'. Got it home, put a few rounds through it, and cleaned it up. It cleaned up real nice, and it is a sweet shooter, smooth double action, and quite accurate as well. From what I can see, it doesn't appear to have been shot very much at all. I'm quite pleased with it, what do you guys think?

Re: My new Model 66
Very nice!
That is one of the early model 66's with the stainless steel rear sights. They say that S&W stopped making the stainless rear sights because it was too hard on the tooling at the time. Those are a little bit on the scare side and desired by some collectors.
I've got one like that's not quite that nice. Excellent score, congrats!

Re: My new Model 66
Nice piece. Congrats. I have several model 19s and I love them. The Model 66 is the Model 19 in SS. Both are a perfect combination of form and funtion. Well balanced, accurate and sturdy without being overly heavy to carry.

GRIPS-- Give yourself a test.
Get 'rubber grips' then go shooting-- There will be a difference.
The stock grips you have look the same as the stock grips
on my S&W 19 and I have that since 1975.
You will see better groups, easier to hold and fire.

Re: My new Model 66
I thought about new grips, maybe a Houge Monogrip or a set of pacmyrs, but I don't mind the stock grips either. I'd probably do it more to save the original grips than anything else. IMO, this thing is near perfect just as it is, this is my first experience with owning a S&W, but it certainly won't be my last. The fit and finish is far better than any other revolver I've owned or handled, and it fits my hand just right. My last .357 was a Ruger, and it was nice, but this is nicer, and more accurate to boot.
