Default Remington 700 sps 300 ultra mag

Recently came across a proposal to buy one of these new in box (matte finish), no scope or mounts. Price tag $450

Anyone have any insight on this rifle? I'm not sure if want to purchase this with the ammo price being $$$

    Just looking for some opinions.

I have one in .243 and I love it. It's an ugly rifle but mine shoots really well.

I read some accuracy complaints on the net when they first came out but that hasn't been my exprerience at all.

Although $450 is a pretty decent price, you might do better if you look around. Good luck finding one in .300 RUM though. I would think there aren't many rifles chambered in that caliber. I don't remember exactly what I paid for mine but I'm sure it was well under $500.

It's definitely chambered in 300 RUM. I personally am not too familiar with that round. Would that reason make the rifle worth more? Still the ammo for the thing is not cheap.

A rifle in 300 RUM would be the same price as any other rifle, everything else being equal. Sound like a good price for an SPS. The 300 RUM is big. Very heavy recoil. Without a lead-sled, I can barely shoot 20 rounds through mine. On the positive side, its long range ballistics are awesome. It gets about 600 fps over a comparable 308 round. Flatter trajectory and lower TOF.

I agree that a 700 SPS in .300 RUM would cost the same as any other long action caliber.

I have no experience with that caliber myself.
