    Default New owner

Just purchased my first gun, a Ruger SR9C. I tried out a full size SR9 at the range and loved it. I'm sure the c version will be just as good.

A few questions. I'm planning on using this as an every day carry (I do have a LTC)

    1. Is there anything special to do with a new out of the box gun? I do plan on getting a cleaning kit. Im pretty hung up on maintenance.

    2. I'm looking for a good conceal iwb holster. I bought a cheap nylon pouch type but I'm a bigger guy and it needs to sit lower on my waist.

    Thanks!

    1. Shoot it. Send a couple hundred rounds down range to get it broke in.

Clean the packing grease first. SR9c are known to do light primer strikes if grease are not removed.

    Clean it real good.
Practice with it before you start carrying it.

Like others have said, make sure you clean the firearm first.

Then, practice with it before carrying. I say this both so you know the firearm you are carrying, and also to work out any hickups with the firearm.

Yep...your practice should include drawing the pistol and getting on target (you can do this at home with an empty pistol). There are times when a gun does you no good if you can't get it drawn fairly quickly.

I sent a little over 100 rounds down range this morning and love the gun. Took me about a dozen shots to really get dialed in. Very comfortable in my hand. Carved out a few bulls eyes too.

I do need to get some more mags so I don't spend all my time reloading at the range.

I've read good things about the super tuck. Thanks for all the input!

Get yourself some dummy rounds to use when practicing your holstering.

Do not use a loaded gun to practice, at least not until you are more accustomed to it.

I've been known to practice with a loaded gun when my wife lets the garbage overflow in the kitchen. Don't try this at home....
