Default Help identify this S&W Revolver please

The father of one of my employees passed away recently and left this S&W revolver behind. My knowledge of older wheelguns is rather limited, but I'd like to try and help her identify this in order to come up with some sort of approximate value. It's chambered in .38 Special.

Since a picture is worth 1000 words, I'll be brief:

The number on the strap is 6513, but I tried Googling that and came up empty-handed.

The frame, the cylinder, and the barrel all have the same serial number.

    Thanks in advance!
    Molon Labe!

This link might help, if you can't find any other information. It's a service S&W provides to help people determine the pedigree of their gun. Since you're doing this for estate purposes, it may make sense to invest the $50 to get it right from the horse's mouth.

S&W Military and Police Model of 1905, 4th Change. Manufactured from 1915-1942. Your serial number places it in the earlier range. I'm just guessing, but would say it's a 1920's revolver. This gun evolved into the S&W model 10.

My example of the same model.

They are sweet shooting firearms and seem to last forever.

I would say it is earlier than that. 1915 started with 241xxx. Mine is 577xxx and from the late 20s.

Make sure you don't shoot any modern jacketed rounds. They are too light and fast for these guns. The will wear out the forcing cone.
The were made to shoot 158gr all lead semi wadcutters.

The C prefix stared on March 22nd 1948 and continued to 1967 when the D prefix took over. Yours is known as a Post war Military & Police or Pre Model 10.
