Default Guns are like running shoes.....Ruger LCR.....

Went to the LGS. My wife wanted to buy a small handgun. She has been a non shooter for the last 30 years.

The choices were a S&W Airweight in .38 Special or a Ruger LCR in .22.

After much debate, checking reviews on line, calling a few friends, and letting HER handle the gun she opted for the Ruger. They added their last 100 round box of ammo to the deal. I am actually headed to a different LGS this morning where the owner tells me he has two boxes.

But as I explained to her guns are like running shoes. You never truly know what you have got until you take it out to the range and shoot a bit.

Hopefully this one will be a good choice.

If you have any comments or LCR shooting advice I (we) would appreciate it. Thanks.

Just bought a lcr in 22wmr myself last week. Going to shoot it today for the first time. Bought it as a tackle box gun and after recommendations from 2 other members in a post I recently had here. Had it narrowed down to this or the tarus polymer 85. During handling I found I preferred the Ruger trigger better. But you are right and it's all about what you like when you shoot it. I've heard that the air weights can be a bit snappy, but I don't know I've never shot one.

You're smart in getting a .22 for her first gun. The Airweight .38 will kick like a mule. Not the best gun for a novice. She'll learn good shooting habits with the .22. Tell her congratualtions!

I have the LCR in .38 I love it BUT the .38 snub is not a good gun for a 1st gun.

The .22 LCR is an excellent choice . Good review here http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-LCR22.htm

I would get the LCR .22 WMR in a heartbeat ...if there were any around

Just in from shooting the lcr in 22wmr. What a blast! Alot more accurate at 20yds than I thought it would be. It's not a tack driver, but will hit center mass every time. OP: watch the videos and believe the part about the trigger reset. I knew about it but forgot to mention it to my son-in-law and he did get caught once. Once I told him though it was no issue. Hope you and your wife enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. As I said mine was bought to carry while I'm fishing and since I mostly wade the creeks the weight will go unnoticed by me while casting. Have fun.

I got my 22 year old daughter a 38 Special in January, and she loves it. She has put about 150 rounds thru it so far and she's getting better every time she shoots the thing.

I told her, that to become good at handling the firearm you have to shoot it. Once you get used to the long trigger pull, it's a blast to shoot.

Will take it out Friday! Let you know how it went. Also picked up a 24/47 rifle. Will give a report on that too.
