I was going to buy my first Glock - a 23, but now I am not so sure.

I think I am going to relook at the xd-40 again.

To each his own, but with a 9mm barrel the G23 becomes a Glock 19, and a .357 Sig barrel is also available. Great gun, and extremely versatile. Can the XD do that?

With that said... I'd do the 357 sig, and then just get the 9mm barrel. And skip the 40. Just me though.

XD's are great weapons....I would agree with most about the .40 until I fired the new GEN4 g23. It has really been beefed up. Many of the kaboom complaints relate directly to the ammo. The double steel spring makes all the difference with regard to recoil. I did fire the .40 xdsc. The trigger beat the hell out of my finger. Its apples to oranges but I just can't say enough about the concealability, durability and accuracy of the g23.

Never thought I would be a solid Glock guy but I guess I am.

The only compact better then a G23 is the Glock 19 perfect for the caliber. With all the G23 beneifts.
I have both but I like the G19 just a little bit better. That being said I think the Glock 23 is an awesome pistol, I am happy with mines but .... the above is true also.

People like to make that quote in generality. And while I will agree that a 12 gauge shotgun is a good defense. It is not the best choice for every home environment. (Unless you make it illegal and saw off the end.)

For example, my mom's house is small, cramped and has several turns. The end result is that it can be very easy to disarm a rifle or shotgun holder in cramped quarters. Where you can get closer than the length of the barrel.

I'll stick with my .357 revolver...
try shooting your 357 in the dark with no ear plugs and if the bullet goes through the bad guy its gonna hit something or someone else. I sleep with my 44 mag under my pillow every night ONLY because i dont have neighbors if i shoot in my house the bullets gonna go into the woods and not into another famlies living room.

Try shooting just about any pistol caliber, and you have the same problem. And with a 44 mag, say goodbye to your ear drums.

Really, what should be said about either the Glock 23 or XD whatever... which fits your hand the best. they are both good firearms, but I know the glock fits better in my hand.

Ok, just read though this mess of a post, and I have a few notes to add.

Sure a G23 kicks hard, sure it has a chance of going "boom", and yes it is plastic.

However, This gun is simple, effective, and with .40 S&W very lethal. I carry one everywhere I go, have shot over 500 rounds though it, and simply love it.

Glock is a glock, sure there are many other nice guns, but when push comes to shove, a glock is your best friend.

Respect it, because its the truth.

My wife carries a XD 9 btw, and it is also a nice gun. but its not a glock.
