Default The great gun control fizzle (keep calling & writing)

Rarely has the political class whipped itself into a lather that has abated so quickly.

The president has certainly done his part. He has held rallies. He has used children as props. He has held events with parents of the little victims of Newtown. He has shamed the nation for its alleged forgetfulness over the terrible events of that day and urged members of Congress to “join me in finishing the job — for our communities and, most importantly, for our kids.”

The needle of public opinion is moving the wrong way. CBS News found that support for stricter guns laws dropped from 57 percent to 47 percent, and CNN from 52 percent to 43 percent.

The headline on a CNN story on the latest trend in polling was titled, Polls Suggest Congress Might Have Waited Too Long on Gun Control. It has waited all of four months.

But the assault weapons ban has been deep-sixed by Democrats in the Senate. Same with any limit on the size of magazines. The argument now is all about increasing the reach of background checks...

The gun control debate has shown the president again to be hopelessly detached as a legislative mechanic and ineffectual as a shaper of public opinion.

The president’s push for new gun laws looks, at this juncture, like a complete fizzle. He has failed to sway red-state Democrats and failed to maintain the heightened public support for new gun control laws. The most concrete effect of his advocacy has been, if the anecdotal evidence is to be believed, to stoke increased gun purchases on fears that the government wants to ban guns. He set out to lead a great crusade for gun control and ended up the best friend the gun industry ever had.

They are running the anti-gun portion/regime of the parents and also the dead children of Newtown on 60 Minutes Sunday in a "harvester of sorrows" National Ghoul Event.

    This shit is not over.

Federal permission for all gun ownership ("universal background checks") is on the table and it WILL be used for registration no matter how they write it.

Do you trust the PA law against registration more? The one that is ignored and we have registration in the Commonwealth? Or do you trust the Federal government more? They just want the system in place, they will use/abuse it later.

BTW - Obamacare will have all of your health records by 1/1/2015, mark my words. And you aint going to pass no background checks no more.

"Mental Health" was the primary tool of imprisonment and golaghs in all of the 20th Century Communist and Socialist Republics, and that is where this is going as well. We are all racists, neurotic, or potential terrorists based on any disagreement with the Barak adminsitration or the Socialist/Progressive agenda, depending on which Government or Press Politburo agency you ask to tell you what is wrong with you.

I don't think the polls dropping off has anything to do with waiting too long. In my opinion it has everything to do with the Democrats shooting themselves in the foot and putting all kinds of bat shit crazy proposals on the table. If they would have just talked about 15 round capacity restrictions, improved background checks and restrictions on purchases of AR type weapons they may have made some headway but they can't help themselves and start talking about confiscations, 7 round magazines and gun registrations and all of the sudden people that previously thought some gun control may be a good idea shy away. Personally, I'm glad they are so full of themselves.

Don't allow yourself to be lulled, that's just what they want. This fight will continue for years & is pendant upon the 2014 mid terms. Another red flag incident & we're right back to square one...

All valid, as usual, from you, Sir... What is happening is the secret BS of not getting ammo on the shelves. You can have an aircraft carrier in your back yard...if ya got no planes to put on it, ya got nothing but scrap iron.

As far as I can tell, the pro-gun/pro-freedom people are getting their asses kicked. Maybe not at the federal level yet, but look at all the new bills that are getting passed at the state level. We are losing, and losing in a big way. New federal laws are probably just one more massacre away. I wish I could, but I don't see much to be optimistic about.

On another note, does anyone know if any of the new bills at the state level have an expiration date?

Let's see how well those laws stand up in court when challenged.

    Give not an inch.
