    Default German mauser

I recently purchased a 1941 German mauser. I have been having a good time shooting it at 100 yds open sights. My question is- is it possible in any way to put a scope on it without drilling and tapping it ,so not to lose its origionality?

I had a scope mount on my Swedish Mauser for a while. Made by B-Square, it mounted in place of the front leaf sight. You will need a long eye relief scope for this mount.

So the key in my story is "had". It really was a poor setup in my opinion, got rid of the scope and mount, still have the rifle.

I know you don't want to but for anyone else who is thinking of doing it......Please don't drill & tap it. I have a german mauser that has the nazi proof marks on it that somebody "sporterized". The only value the rifle has now is a shooter.

If you don't want to drill and tap...(I wouldn't myself, it sounds like you have a good one...but it is yours) you may want to try some peep sights.

Mojo makes peeps to replace the leaf, helps out a lot in my opinion. I have a set installed on my VZ-24 which is a real tack driver.

If you want to check it out here is the site.

Not a conventional scope mount, using a two-piece or one-piece mount. You might have an option to replace the rear sight leaf with a scope mount similar in appearance to the ZF-41 mount the Germans did use. And, it won't be a permanent modification.

If you want a scoped K98, please buy one already scoped. Every time someone drills one for a scope, another survivor of W.W.II becomes altered forever.

    S&K style mount

    ZF-41 mount on a K98k.

Not sure if they still do, but B-Square did make a No Tap, No Drill mount that mounted over the receiver like a conventional mount, I think it did require a little inletting of the stock in places.

What do you think an original German made WW2 Mauser is worth? You can currently buy them from Mitchell's Mauser's for as little as $299 (service grade) or $499 (collectors grade). If you think the one you have is more valuable than these, then buy a service grade and have a scope mounted by a gunsmith.Link: http://mauser.org/rifles/german_k98/index.htm

I 'second' the recommendation of the S&K Scope Mount - it replaces the existing rear sight with a mount, and requires no modification. It can be made 'stock' again in a couple of minutes.
