Default Tactical / Home Defense Shotgun

3 Rivers Tactical Training Solutions, Inc. will be offering a 1 day Tactical / Home Defense Shotgun course on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Beaver Valley Rifle and Pistol Club.

Over the past 10 years or so, the popularity of the AR15 weapon system has rendered the Tactical / Home Defense use of the shotgun to be something of a lost art. Unfortunately, recent national events have increased the cost of .223 / 5.56 ammunition to the point of being cost prohibitive for many shooters. As such, lots of folks are turning, or perhaps returning, to the shotgun as a viable Self / Home Defense weapon system.

While just about everyone has fired a shotgun at some point in their life, very few people have ever been professionally trained to do so. The 12 gauge shotgun, particularly the pump action model, is one of the versatile firearms ever made, and the value of being able to correctly use the shotgun to protect yourself, your family, and your home cannot be overstated.

The cost of shotgun ammo is still well within the price range of just about everyone, and acquiring the knowledge, skills, and abilities to use the shotgun in a tactical shotgun is a very positive addition to your shooting toolbox.

3T's Tactical / Home Defense shotgun gets the shooter out of the traditional hunting mindset of shotgun use and into the realm of using the weapon to fight for your life and to protect the lives of those you care about.

    Topics Covered Include:

    1) Firearm Safety Rules.

    2) 6 Fundamentals of Shotgun Marksmanship and Manipulation

    3) Developing Proper Situational Awareness and Combat Mindset

    4) HEAVY emphasis on Reloads and Malfunction Clearing

    5) Load Selection - Buckshot or Slug?

    6) HEAVY emphasis on the use of Cover and Concealment

    7) One-Handed Reloading and Shotgun Manipulations

    8) Slug Change-Overs, aka Select-A-Slug

    9) Proper Setup of the Side Saddle

    10) Threat Discrimination

    11) The Basics of Room Clearing / Home Defense With The Shotgun

    Required Equipment

    1) This course is generally designed around the 12 gauge semi-auto or pump action shotgun, however, any type and caliber shotgun can be used. Bring what you have. We'll make it work for you.

A sling is recommended but optional.

    2) 200 rounds of bird shot. 10 rounds of rifled slug. 10 round of 00 buck shot.

    3) A pistol is optional for shotgun to pistol transitions. If bringing a pistol, please bring a quality kydex (plastic) holster, 50 rounds of ball pistol ammunition, and at least 2 magazines.

    4) Eye protection

    5) Ear protection that does not interfere with obtaining a good cheek weld / proper mounting of the shotgun.

    6) Appropriate range attire. All students must have a pouch worn on their body to hold shotgun ammo, or BDU / 5.11 type cargo pants with side pants pockets.

Minimum class size is 4 students, maximum class size is 20 students. All students will be presented a certificate of achievement upon successfully completing the course.

All 3T courses are taught by certified instructors with years of military, law enforcement, and high threat security contracting experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. Threat discrimination and round accountability are core skills that are relentlessly emphasized.

This course is a go with 6 signed up so far.

For anyone who hasn't done the math, the ammo requirements for this course (depending on where you shop) should be no more than approx $125.00.

As mentioned in the description above, we will be doing some room clearing in this course and providing a lot of information on how to clear your home with a shotgun and how to choose your home defense shotgun load.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any question.
