Re: my favorites for Deer
Thanks,
I wanted something for the thick shit we hunt in around here and this fit the bill perfectly.
I really am happy with the way the 3 dot sights worked out too. The ammo is holding 1.0" groups at 50 yards couple of the 3 shot groups were just under 1.0" but most were a few hairs over that.
The deep recessed 11 degree target crown I cut into the muzzle is working out great. If I still reloaded I think I could get them touching at this close range.
Out of the dozen or so Mosin rifles I played with this one has the best barrel on it.

Re: my favorites for Deer
I've killed most of my deer with a 30-06. With the right bullets they don't take a step. I've shot a couple with a .270 and three with a 7 mag. The 7 you have to use the right bullets or it completely destroys a deer. 150 gr ballistic tips are not a good choice. It looked like I hit it with a car when we pulled the skin off. I just traded it for a .300 win mag. I killed a 200lb hog with it so far. It didn't even twitch. 180 gr PSP's didn't tear up too much meat. I got the .300 mag so I could use the same bullets to reload all my rifles 30-06 and .308 all use the same. I would really like to get a .44 mag or .454 Casull pistol. Never shot a deer with a handgun.
