Default Hunting cabin in a State Forest question.

We have an opportunity to purchase a hunting cabin that's on land leased from DCNR in a State Forest. I have read the rules governing leased campsites and state forest lands and, while they are restrictive, we really don't have a problem with them. The leases are for 10 years and currently cost $200 a year...reasonable enough.

My question is: Has any one had any experiences with this kind of lease? What, if any, are the pit-falls to be on the look out for? Any input from current or former lease holders would be appreciated!

    N3HCP,
I'm not a former lesee or a current one, but a couple years ago I was looking into a cabin lease on DCNR land in Pike county. I found out that the local school district had recently assessed school taxes on all the hunting cabins that were within their school district. At that time it was about $700/per yr. I thought that was rather rotten. Just an FYI.

My dog "Ruger" is worried about the economy because Alpo is up to $3.00 a can. That's almost $21.00 in dog money.

i have a cabin along with 10 others in pottersdale that we lease. As for the stated lease time we have a 100 year lease on are cabin. One thing i do know is that you must keep it up to code. Also we have to file for wood cutting permits. We also have taxes and have the cabin insured incase someone would be injured in it or if it would burn down. If you have any other more specific questions i can ask our president. it is a great way to get a cabin but just remember they can take it away from you fast for not following regulations.
