Ruger SR1911 Commander
Picked up a Ruger SR1911 Commander today. Purchased it New in Box at Shyda's gun shop in Lebanon for $699. After a quick cleaning and lube I head to the range.
Fired 100rds, all 230gr FMJ but mixed brands. Mostly CCI Blazer aluminum case, but did also shoot some Winchester White Box and American Eagle. Mags used were Ruger Factory, Chip McCormick Shooting Stars, Mecgar and Wilson 47D.
Experienced 1 malfunction on Rd 80 (magazine #10) which is an older wilson with a weak spring (sometimes doesn't hold open slide on last round in my 1911's). The round was a CCI Blazer and I'm blaming the mag for now. Quick tap on rear of slide chambered the round easily.
I was happy with the results, hopefully I can tighten it up a bit over time...
and here it is with it's big brother SR1911 Government Model...
and with a Commander sized cousing from Dan Wesson (Guardian 45).
If I'm still happy with it after a few more range session I'll probably send it off for a bobtail conversion.....Last edited by sigarms229; March 29th, 2013 at 09:25 PM.

Re: Ruger SR1911 Commander
Since you have one of each (you lucky bastard ), how much difference is there in muzzle flip between the two? I only ask 'cause my carry mid-size (ATI, BTW) is resprung with a recoil buffer and it is sweet compared to some of my stock, 5" rides.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Re: Ruger SR1911 Commander
Your Ruger SR1911 is a very nice firearm. Excellent purchase.
I have a government model Kimber Crimson Carry II and I've been looking to add
a .45 Commander/Officer model to my collection. After seeing your SR1911, I'm going to take a closer look at it and do some research on it in the hopes of maybe getting one in the future.
What type of sights do they come with? Are they Novak?

Well known shooter and gunsmith Bruce Gray believes they are Novak licensed but produced by Ruger or a 3rd party. He states that they were most likely damaged during installation.Last edited by sigarms229; March 30th, 2013 at 04:58 PM.
