    Default Cabela's coming to Erie

The news announced that Millckreek township is in talks with Cabela's about opening a 40,000 sf store in the plaza on interchange road behind Buffalo wild wings. They said that the plans are to have the store open by Thanksgiving day. This would be a great addition to the choices that we currently have in Erie, and who knows, maybe force Dicks to change their buisness model?

Well, that is great! Cabelas is a good company, and will bring jobs and other benefits to the area. But if they are only in talks now with the municipality, then it will never be opened by Thanksgiving this year, maybe not even next year. These things take a long time. The Cabelas in Hamburg took several years from discussion to store opening.

I'm thinking it'll be up by xmas time this year...they're eager to build and Milcreek would be foolish to hesitate. Plus, it would keep the local shops honest to compete...

While Dick's does have a few guns and some hunting/camping equipment, their bread and butter are the ball sports and exercise folks. I doubt a new Cabela's will cause them to change anything.

That said, a new Cabela's in your neighborhood is not a bad thing.

There was a thread on another board that 40,000sf is relatively small for a Cabela's and most are 150,000sf+. I'm wondering what kind of inventory they will be able to keep.
