Double action revolver with lightest trigger?

Looking for a revolver for my wife. Have tried Rossi, Taurus, and Ruger. So far the Ruger LCR's seem to have the best trigger pull.

In your experiences what brands of revolvers typically have the best trigger pulls?

If you find a used Model 10, you will "find the trigger to beat". I just picked up a 70+ year old pre-model 10 (the M&P 1905 4th change to be exact) and both the single and double action operation was a snap. Dave_n

I think that you probably mean LCR - yes? I've never shot one, but I understand because of the way the trigger linkage is designed, it gives you slightly more mechanical advantage, thus a lighter pull. Remember with an D/A revolver you are performing multiple functions with one trigger pull. You are indexing the cylinder, cocking the hammer and then releasing it. In addition to the mechanical friction of all the moving parts, you are pulling against two springs - the main spring, which powers the hammer, which of course affects reliable ignition, and the trigger return spring, which resets the trigger.

A stock D/A revolver may have a pull of 10 - 15 pounds. Probably the lowest you can go, and still get reliable ignition with factory ammo, is 8 pounds. I have seen, and felt, pure competition revolvers as low as 4.5 pounds, but they required the use of handloaded ammo with "crushed" Federal primers (seated .008" to .010" below flush) for reliable ignition. My competition revolver is set-up for factory (Federal) ammo and comes in around 7 pounds - but I wouldn't trust it as a SD gun - it is right on the edge of reliability.

While the Ruger LCR's may be among the best as far as weight of pull, they are also small and light, which makes them hard to control - especially for an inexperienced shooter. So many women, and people purchasing firearms for women, make the mistake of purchasing something small and light - failing to remember that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Unless she intends to carry it, I'd look at an older S&W K-frame. Even if she intends to carry, a 2.5" or 3" K-frame would nicely fill the bill. You may find it acceptable as purchased, or you may want to have it worked on to lighten the pull. If the latter, make sure you specifiy that this is to be a SD gun that will only use factory ammo and thus must be 100% reliable.

+1.......find something that was made before lawyers got involved. Trigger pulls are slowly getting better (thanks to the Savage accutrigger). In my opinion the worst ones are from the 80's-90's.

Older smith and wessons do have a very very nice trigger pull.

Not a python type action, but get the job done well.

As far as overall butter smooth actions, I have a Dan wesson 15 .357 that has a BEAUTIFUL action, that rivals many higher end guns.

Also the more you shoot, the smoother smiths seem to get.

They will feel very "tight" from new.

Also a quick trigger job from your local gunsmith can help things out.

Also, that poly gun will have a lot more kick for your wife, so you may want to consider a little heavier of a gun for her, of course something that she feels comfortable with.

i had an lcr and it will rival most smiths out there. great shooter with little recoil compared to the smith light weight
