    Default Involuntary commitment?

    Hi all,
I'm new here. I did read some of the older posts about involuntary commitments but I guess I am still confused.
My situation happened 27 years ago in PA. I was involuntarily committed for a 72 hour period. After that time I had a hearing. My therapist did not show up so they had to let me go, but I decided to voluntarily commit myself.
So will I be able to own a gun considering I checked myself in voluntarily after the 72 hour hold period?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

You almost certainly were committed under Section 302 for the initial period, and then they tried to bump it up to a 303 for a longer stay.

Depending on how the paperwork was completed, you probably are prohibited from firearms ownership now. There's a way to get your rights back, but it requires a petition to the Court of Common Pleas. Takes a few months. You'll need a lawyer and a psychiatrist.

Thanks for your answer. Not the one I was hoping to read but it sounds like my situation could be changed. I feel like I'm being lumped in with the felons. I wonder how many other people in my situation feel like I do? We've lost a major right.

My ex was always telling me that and he didn't even work for the state.
