Default Police trade in AR-15 Question

    Hello,

I am picking up a Colt LE police trade in tomorrow and was wondering if anyone here is an LEO or former or just knows if the average cops shoots their patrol rifle a lot. I know it likely depends on the particular officer but if you could just give me an idea of how often the average officer does that would be great. Just trying to get an idea of the amount of rounds they put through these things.

    Thanks

    Bob G

It probably has a few bodies of fleeing civilians on it, but I wouldn't worry about the round count.

Don't you plan to shoot it? It's an AR. And a Colt. Do you plan to ditch it after 200 rounds? 20,000?

I paid 945 for it, and I just opened it up and it looks like it was never shot, barrel is pristine. There is one scratch on it and thats about it.

In general Police trade ins are carried a lot but shot rarely, usually just for qualifying every few years. They will have numerous dings and scratches but the internals are usually excellent.

I was on the CERT team for 5 yrs at a FL prison and our AR's generally saw 200 to 300 rds each a couple times a month and twice a year for qualifying. These AR's could also be signed out by members of the team, but they had to purchase and use ammo made/bought by the prison armorer. These AR's did not sit around much, but by no means were they seeing 1000 rds during a weekend. Our armorer also kept them in top condition, so even with rounds on them, they were very good guns. Unless it came from a CERT or SWAT training facility, I wouldn't be overly concerned about it. They are built to shoot.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.
