    Default Legal or Not

A quick question. My sister lives in Levittown Pa and my brother in-law lives in Bayville NJ. I want to go visit my sister and my wife wants to visit her brother. I would like to carry my firearm on this trip, but would not be carrying it into PRNJ. My sister is not a gun person, but she said I could store mine at her house. If I purchase a small gun safe and not supply her with the key would this be legal. I would not do anything that could come back on my sister.

If she doesn't have access, then it's not a transfer, so it's legal.

If she has a PA LTCF, you could hand it to her as a loan, there's an exception for PA-licensed recipients.

Wouldn't a transfer still be legal as long as shes not prohibited?

Sibling to sibling transfers of handguns must go through an FFL or sheriff. They aren't the same as parent-child, grandparent-grandchild, and spouse transfers which are permitted to be direct transfers. Seems silly, but that's the way it is.
I am not a lawyer. Nothing I say or write is legal advice.

No, non-ffl transfers are for spouses, children, parents and grandparents. Nothing about siblings in there.

edit: beat me by seconds, lol.

Thanks everyone, my sister is 86 years old, so I do not think I would be able to convince her to get an LTCF. Does anyone have a safe that would work for this?

If she's 86, I don't think it would take much of a container to deprive her of access. She probably barely has constructive possession of the aspirin in the child-proof bottles.

Spend $20 and buy one of the small firesafes at WalMart.

ETA: That sounded cruel. Wasn't meant that way. Just reflects reality, an 86 year old woman with a gun in a locked safe, even a cheap safe, is NOT going to be viewed as having possession of that gun. A 17 year old gangbanger, might be.

Actually she does pretty well, but I think right about the Child proof caps, she says she can't wait for all the lawyers who insist on them gets to be her age.
