Default Have no proof of purchase

    Hi,
Back in the early 1980's I won a pistol from a fire company fundraiser. To my knowledge I was never given a proof of ownership of any kind or if I did recieve one I lost it. Can I legally carry this pistol in Penna. without proof of ownership as long as I have a legal carry permit? Also does anyone have any idea how I can obtain proof of ownership for this weapon?

You need no proof of purchase as there is no registry in Pa. Further, you need no Ltcf if you open carry. To carry concealed, yes you need the license.

    As mentioned above..

If it really bothers you, you can have the gun transferred to yourself at a knowledgeable dealer. He will take it in, add it to his bound book, then you will fill out the paperwork, he will do the background check, and if you pass - you will get the gun back. The PSP's SP4-113 form will eventually get to the Firearms Division in Harrisburg, which then it will be added to the database in your name.

It isn't necessary to do, but it may help should you be confronted by an over-zealous officer and he/she confiscates your handgun because it wasn't in the database in your name.

It would violate Pennsylvania law for the state cops to have such a database.

I believe the only database that it could be checked against would be the one used if it was reported stolen.

Nah, it is ok, because it is not a registry.

The PSP uses an incomplete sales database, technically an illegal incomplete registry they still manage to maintain due to its being " incomplete ". Though its still used for confiscation if your gun shows up under another/different name or not at all.
