ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A poll shows New York Republican voters for the first time disapprove of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's performance following the Democrat's push for a gun-control bill.

The Quinnipiac University poll finds 55% of Republican voters disapprove of Cuomo, with 27% approving of his job performance.

In December, 74% of Republicans approved of Cuomo's performance.

In January, Cuomo presented a State of the State address that included a more liberal policy agenda. Cuomo's goals include a women's agenda with a strengthening of abortion laws.

Cuomo has a 49% approval among independent voters. Sixty-nine percent of Democrats approve of his performance two years into the job.

The poll questioned 1,165 votes March 11 through Sunday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9%age points.

read it again Rompus. It does not say they voted for him. It only says they approve of his job in office until the SAFE act was passed. Cuomo had taken a number of steps to cut the State's budget and sraightened out a number of problems the Republicans had been griping about.

He could stand to lose the R's no problem. However many Independents are pissed too and that is going to hurt him. Hopefully they don't forget by the time the election rolls around.

Cuomo actually answers to Bloomberg. Bloomberg was the one that supplied the money to get that idiot elected. Bloomberg is the man behind the curtain there.

I think the NY republicans set themselves up for this disaster by thinking it's OK to vote for democrats. Cuomo won by an overwhelming majority.

That brings me to the next point. Why do republicans think they only have to let the guy that has the least to lose run for offices against guys like Cuomo. They should be pushing the best and brightest up to the front and not the one that will do the least damage if they lose by being able to say we had a lousy candidate thats' why we lost. The reason they lose is because of sheer laziness and not believing in their own causes. Mediocrity is not an asset. Now they have to deal with Cuomo and a court that will never overturn the 2nd amendment cancellation in NY.
