    Default Pepper spray training?

Can anyone recommend a solid training course that has focus on or includes how to quickly/effectively deploy pepper spray in real world defensive scenerios?

Preferably within driving distance of philly.

I think I've finally evolved out of the "gun focused" phase and I'm looking for something an old guy like me can use to effectively defend short of or as an adjunct to lethal force as circumstances dictate.

    Thanks in advance.

PS: I hope this is the right (or at least right enough) forum. Seemed the forum on training is to announce training classes rather than ask about them.

hi, i think if you check out the act 235 courses in your area you would likely find a pepper spray or oc course near you. you can google act 235 or the psp website for 235 and you should be able to find a school that might offer it.

OCAT is the name of the CErtification I got through work for OC training. It is at least a state recognized cert if not National.

It's not as simple as "Point, squirt, repeat if necessary?"

Yes it is, that's how your handgun works too, right?

Actually it's ALMOST that simple. There is a bit more to it. Plus certification can help if anyone ever tries to sue you for spraying them.

Almost. You also need to cover your face with your non-spraying arm all the while screaming " No, I am not a victim". And wave your spraying hand back and forth.

Is that so you don't have to see the attackers' fists inflict blow out fractures of your orbital bones as you stand there like a manequin screaming like a little girl?

Just kidding, but seems to me deployment of any defensive system has ins and outs and stuff that's good to know developed by people who have been there and thought through obtaining high ground while avoiding pitfalls.

Just trying to avoid having to invent my own wheel.

I'm just busting ballz here. I think that any thing you can do to defend yourself will work one day and end in severe self injury the next. It all depends. Just everytime I think OC I see a room of women attacking an oversized dummy and hoolering.

OC Spray is a very simple, and has a nice point and click interface. Look out for returning mist, as you can easily get hit yourself. You can spray yourself if your so inclined to learn what it feels like. It burns, but you can blink rapidly to assist in seeing. Your nose will be very runny also. That's all I can remember (I was sprayed for an academy class).

I would suggest you go with a small pistol like a KelTec, which is just like pepper spray (same point and click interface), but its much more convincing to make your attacker stop. With the pistol, don't try it out on yourself first.
