House GOP Leaders: We Can Pass Gun Control, Immigration, Without Republican Support
I think there may soon be a shortage of tar.
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Governm...ss-gun-control
With more and more conservatives in the House rebelling against John Boehner’s increasingly questionable Speakership, Republican House leadership is now moving to quash in-house concerns by reaching across the aisle for support. Leadership is moving in the wake of a surprising move by 16 House Republicans to vote against a Republican leadership-crafted closed rule on a government funding bill. The rule was designed to limit amendments to the government funding bill, but some House conservatives, concerned over the Boehner team’s refusal to consider a floor vote on an amendment to defund Obamacare implementation, bucked Boehner on the rule.
After undergoing that unpleasant shock, House leadership hasn’t responded by listening to the concerns of the more conservative members of its caucus. Instead, House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on Sunday that he would be open to ramming through bills without the support of a majority of his own Republican caucus. Not just on small bills. On issues like immigration and gun control, McCarthy said, he’d be open to taking rogue Republicans across the aisle to work with Democrats.Last edited by PocketProtector; March 11th, 2013 at 08:34 AM.

I seem to be reading that differently than you posted, I don't see anywhere where any Repub says that they can pass gun control.
I'll wait for others to chime in.

Again, I urge everyone to read and respond to the full text of what is wrtten. You can't read half the article and know all the information that it contains. The last paragraph reads;
UPDATE: Late this evening, Rep. McCarthy's representatives reached out to both Breitbart News and The Hill regarding the use of the Hastert rule in the House. The Hill reports in an update to its original story:
In a statement to The Hill, McCarthy spokesperson Mike Long said: "Whip McCarthy strongly supports returning to regular order to bring legislation to the floor that has the support of a majority of the majority. Insinuation to the contrary is completely false."

I think that's reading pretty deeply into what's been written. Here's the quote from the original source, The Hill:
Asked on CNN Sunday if more breaches of the Hastert rule on topics including gun control and immigration reform are possible if bills come over from the Senate, McCarthy didn't answer the question directly, pointing to Boehner’s comments earlier in the week.
“The speaker says he wants to, if you listen to his press conference the other day, he will pass bills that the House passes,” said McCarthy on CNN’s "State of the Union." “He'll pass bills that the Republicans are moving forward.”
It looks like he's speaking much more broadly than the Breitbart article makes it look. Candy Crowley brought up gun control, but McCarthy only generally addressed the idea of working outside the spirit of the "Hastert Rule". I didn't see anything in his response that would indicate, at this time, that House leadership is backing gun control.“A Republic, if you can keep it.” - Benjamin Franklin

Maybe the R's are gradually falling apart...
This shouldn't really come as a surprise, since they seem to have little unifying philosophy beyond "taxes bad!"

Seems to me that the true Conservatives the People elected to actually get things done are attempting to do just that and the Old Guard does not like it.
If this continues, and I hope it does, I see more and more of these Old Guard farts heading off to retirement land being replaced by actual Conservatives.
This will bring back the philosophy of Conservatism to the party and that will leave the Dems with their anti-American Socialist platform.
I think this gun issue is going to end up being a good thing if one is a Conservative Republican, and a not so good thing if one is a Socialist Democrat.
The gun issue as well as some other high profile Democrat pushes are starting to backfire I think.
Bloombergs soda ban was shut down, Obama stopping White House tours due to his own cuts are coming to light as are the costs of his golf outings. I heard that the cost of his golf outing with Tiger Woods would run the White House tours for a year.
People are giving thought to Obama's people and their drone comments.
True Conservatives are a friend to the Second, and I see this as a way for them to boost their ranks in effect helping all gun owners in the long run.

And both issues are bad for america.
Just on the amensty you need to think of this
1, the majority of them will be low skilled and cost more money than they put into the country especially when considering their reproduction rates
2, since they are more likely to be poor they will vote for people who keep the public dough coming.
3 they will vote for people like obama, they will appoint people like kagan who in turn will vote to further ruin our country and take our guns.
A gun enthusiast supporting amnesty is like a chicken support sanders. It might not happen right away, but trust me the democrats with use the latino vote the way they have the black vote and keep liberals in power and guns out of our hands.
No votes for turncoats. Any republican who supports these needs to GO GO GO away.I offer discounts on freeze dried foods, knives and other prepping products.

Most people won't get it, but amnesty will lead to gun control. Maybe not today but within 20 years when the offspring start voting and paying the dems back for making mama and papa legal more people like obama will be elected and more judges like kagan.
for 1000 points does anyone know what they means for gun owners?I offer discounts on freeze dried foods, knives and other prepping products.

Re: House GOP Leaders: We Can Pass Gun Control, Immigration, Without Republican Suppo
The whole problem with this entire thread is that is is based on a statement never made by McCarthy, but it is based on a statement made by Breitbart.
Breitbart wrote into their story a comment made by Candy Crowley.
McCarthy never said that they would push gun control or immigration or work with Democrats to do so.
Read this:
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefi...#ixzz2NBulumJ2
In a statement to The Hill, McCarthy spokesperson Mike Long said: "Whip McCarthy strongly supports returning to regular order to bring legislation to the floor that has the support of a majority of the majority. Insinuation to the contrary is completely false."
Boehner has never explicitly endorsed the Hastert rule, but has said he would only bring bills to the floor that were backed by a “majority of the majority.
I don't trust any politician, but this is a case of outright false reporting.
