    Default Paint peeling sig mosquito?

Hello all, has anyone else ever had an issue with paint peeling off of their pistol? I purchased this sig mosquito this past week in OD Green. After taking it to the range i cleaned it at home and during the cleaning the paint around the manual safety began to strip off. It was cleaned with Hoppes, the same i clean all my guns with. I stopped cleaning around that area as soon as i noticed it, but the damage was done. I inspected the gun carefully before buying it and this was definitely not a pre existing issue. Anyone seen this before?

I haven`t seen it but I have heard of it on plastic painted guns.

I'm pretty sure it is a stainless steel slide that's been Cerokoted. It should say somewhere to not use solvents on the paint. It definitely says not to on the pink Mosquito. You should call Sig to verify. I have a couple guns painted with hardened acrylic enamel (what your Honda Civic or Ford Mustang is painted with) that is not as durable as Cerokote (supposedly) and Hoppe's does not damage the paint as long as I don't let it stay on it too long. I'd be inclined to think some of that is peeling off by the looks of it. Getting paint to stick to stainless steel takes perfect prep work, even if it is Cerokote.

This is why I don't buy painted guns. Is the slide of the mosquito aluminum like the conversion kits are? If it's steel I would redo it in durabake's shake and bake kit.

Might be easier than fighting with Sig since he admits he cleaned it with Hoppe's. The kit is relatively inexpensive, as well.

exactly. Hell I'm sure the aluminum would be fine on the 3hour/180° setting.

Yep. Aluminum heads can withstand upwards to 240, or so, for quite a while with no ill effects. I think, too, that 150 degrees can be used, though if Duracote is two part, you don't even half to bake it, just simply let cure for a couple days before handling.

I had the best luck with the 180° setting. The finish came out phenomenal. I tried it first at the higher temp and was not as impressed so I recoated it and baked it again.

Recently purchased a mosquito in FDE myself, had it to the range twice, cleaned it twice. No issues, but as stated earlier I didn't leave anything on the paint too long. There was a card inside my case titled Decorative finish care card. It says to "clean the decorative finish with clean water" Check your case and see if you got one with your paperwork. Also says Sig warrants the finish to be free from defects for a period of 1 year. As long as you followed their care suggestions, I would think they would make good.
