Exclamation IS a bolt action BMG/Armalite .50 considered Class III ?

    Hello All,

As a PA resident residing in Delaware County, am I allowed to purchase and fire a bolt action .50 cal, such as an ArmaLite .50 ? I'm somewhat miffed insomuch as some of the .50's on GunBroker for instance say Class III, I think...

    HELP ?

ANY and ALL feedback/opinions appreciated !

    Dave

Is the barrel less than 16"? If so, than yes, it's class III.

Is the barrel 16" or more? If so, than no, it is not a class III item.

Could you imagine a .50 BMG SBR? I'd love to shoot that....but probably only once

Only problem you may run into is that clubs may not allow you to shoot that caliber.

IIRC, .55Cal was considered NFA. I think a lot of bolt-action Boyes AT rifles were re-barreled to .50 for non-NFA legality? Been forever since I read anything of these guns.
All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.

Who told you .50bmg is class 3? lol i would not buy from them, that is beyond BS. you can buy/own any .50 cal in any state besides california. i have 2 of them (barrett 82a1 & LAR grizzly big boar), they are just very expensive and be prepared to pay a ridiculous price for ammo. also around where i'm at i can't find a place to properly shoot it. I'm not into shooting my 50s because its stupid to shoot it 200 yards max at my club, not only that it weighs a freaking ton and my shoulder feels it after a couple shots. i wouldn't buy the armalite either, I would buy an accuracy international or a mcmillan tac-50 if i were to buy another. that big boar i got sucks don't buy that one because of the price. on .50 cals you get what you pay for, biggest mistake of my gun buying life with that thing.

    * forgot to mention the DTA HTI .50, its the ballz. i have a srs in .338 lapua and they are beyond awesome.
    * also prepare to buy a really expensive scope, like a nightforce or us optics, your looking $3k+. barrett also makes BORS system to calculate all your parameters, but its $1750+.

ETA: don't always believe what you see or hear, it's probably a GB seller trying to scare someone into the purchase. Kinda like those people on this forum that say in their ads..."buy it before it's banned" BS.

50 BMG are Title I and are treated like any other rifle and as mentioned you might have a hard time finding a place to shoot it and a lot of clubs have banned them.

At one point I owned nine 50 BMG rifles and they are a blast to shoot. Ammo can be expensive and reloading is your best option.

A good reliable scope that has been used on 50s for decades is the L&S MKIV fixed 10x and 16x/ I prefer the 16x and it had 140 minutes of elevation and the 10x has 90. My McBros heavy bench gun has a 16x boosted to 20x by Premier and I was able to see the holes in the target at 1000 yds.

If you poke around the boards and gunbroker you can fine one reasonable in the $700-1000 range.

    Dave,

What everybody here said is true, they are regular rifles in PA and under Federal law.

However, if you post links to some of these Gunbroker adds, maybe we can tell you whether there is something different about those firearms or if the sellers are just full of baloney.
