Ruger 10/22 - Ergonomic/reliability modifications?
Just picked up a used 10/22 to supplement, possible replace, my GSG-5.
I was looking to keep the 10/22 relatively simple.
What are some common modifications for the 10/22? Looking to mostly improve some ergonomics.
I am looking at the Vol. automatic bolt release, extended mag release, Vol. extended bolt handle, Vol. buffer, Tac Sol V block, Vol. firing pin.
I want to keep the factory barrel since it is a plinker/shtf gun. Lightweight, yet sturdy compared to the GSG5's barrel.
Would it be worth upgrading the trigger to an aluminum trigger with post travel screw? It is not for a competition or accuracy/bench rifle. Probably more so as a .22 training rifle to their larger caliber semi's in my collection.

Re: Ruger 10/22 - Ergonomic/reliability modifications?
Your that lazy you cannot even type out the companies name?
Those items aren't going to change the ergos...those parts are going to make mag changes easier/faster for you.
Only you will know if it's "worth it" to you or not.
Go with KIDD parts and you will have the very best 10/22 parts being made. The trigger job is very nice compared to the OEM trigger.

Re: Ruger 10/22 - Ergonomic/reliability modifications?
At that time of night for me, yes I am. I figure not everyone wants me to repeat Volquartsen for each part. Tactical Solutions shorthands their brand name on their own website. Shorthand writing is a common thing.
I also see ergonomic designs as anything that makes something more comfortable or easier to manipulate with less movements or less effort. So anything that allows easier manipulation or removes a step is an ergonomic upgrade to me.
Thank you for the reference to KIDD, I may just have to pick up some parts from them. I'll check out some gunsmiths who do trigger jobs vs. just buying a whole trigger pack.
EDIT: Sorry I thought you meant an actual trigger job, but now see that KIDD offers a "trigger job kit". Makes for a very attractive trigger upgrade than shipping out my components.Last edited by FJR86; March 2nd, 2013 at 09:49 AM.

Re: Ruger 10/22 - Ergonomic/reliability modifications?
I purchased Hornet Trigger replacement trigger assemblies for my 10/22's. The are under $100 and offer a credit if you return your original. Took the stock 7-8lb pull down to a crisp 2.5lbs which really improves practical accuracy. I also replaced the take-down pin/bolt stop with a Power Customs polymer version. Makes the 10/22 action a bit quieter.

Re: Ruger 10/22 - Ergonomic/reliability modifications?
I ended up picking up:
Kidd CNC complete bolt with extended firing pin and EDM cut extractor
Kidd "Trigger job" kit which includes an adjustable trigger, sear and hammer
Kidd automatic bolt release
Kidd bolt handle and spring assembly
Kidd bolt buffer
I also still intend to pick up a Tac Sol V-block.
Placed a backorder for 4x BX25 mags
Bought 2x BX25 at "ban scare" prices
Currently still looking at replacement iron sights. haven't decided what way to go yet.
And I am still on the fence about an extended mag release consider this 10/22 came with a factory extended mag release.

Re: Ruger 10/22 - Ergonomic/reliability modifications?
I modified the factory bolt release to auto release when you pull back on the bolt handle.(vids on youtube) Added a Power Custom titanium extended mag release(awsome release), OE metal trigger housing to replace the oe plastic housing and a Clark custom billet trigger with trigger stop. Made my own buffer and polished up some internals. It is a blank canvas and you do not have to spend a ton of money to have fun with it.

Re: Ruger 10/22 - Ergonomic/reliability modifications?
They look very nice. I saw them and was considering them.
I was also looking at Nodak sights since they offer a scope rail if I ever decided to add any kind of optic. But it seems like their rear sights with rail only fits their receivers. I have a Burris Fastfire3 that I was considering taking off my M1S90 and putting it on the 10/22.
The TSR-100 looks like a nice set.Last edited by FJR86; March 3rd, 2013 at 09:37 PM.

Re: Ruger 10/22 - Ergonomic/reliability modifications?
I've swapped out several parts in my 10/22.
This old thread from over at http://www.rimfirecentral.com outlines the progress of 10/22 build. I've since made a couple minor changes but the internals are all the same.
