Default Question about ordering ammo from Aim Surplus

I ordered some Mosin Ammo from Aim Surplus yesterday. Today one of my buddies ordered some from them. He just called to point out that they need a valid gov't id (drivers license) before processing the order so that they know you are 21. I did not notice this yesterday and they had not processed my order. Basically they want you to scan your id and upload to them.

Have they always done this or is this a new policy? I know it is their right to set the terms they see fit, but I do not feel comfortable giving a company both my credit card info and and a copy of my drivers license so I will be canceling my order and getting some Mosin Ammo from a company that does not have this extra hoop to jump through.

I have never run into this before, is this a common practice or just an Aim thing. Have they always done this, or is it a newer policy.

Thanks for any info in advance

I've gotten many cases of ammo from AIM - never had an issue.

Ammoman also wants something similar like a copy of your LTCF.
I find it common for online ammo purchases.

Years ago I remember one of the catalog companies requesting your id for ammo purchases. I think it may have been ctd and it was before internet commerce was nearly as big as it is today. They wanted you to mail it in with your order.

Back then I thought all companies required it.

It is not uncommon to send ID. Besides, they have everything they need to steal your ID already. They even have your credit card number.Worrying about a picture of your license is futile at this point.

I am not sure if they have the complete #. Don't most sites go through a third party that encripts the number and it is not recorded? I may be completly wrong but that is how I thought it works.

It depends on how they set up. If you order from me I can let it automatically run through my Merchant Account and the charge is done instantaniously. I only see the card type, expiration date, and last four digits.

I can shut that off on not let in charge. Then I get the complete credit card number. However I then have to manually run the credit card to charge it.

Not a very efficient way of doing things if you have a volume of sales to run.`

Thanks for the feedback. I cancelled my order and wound up ordering a case of the Mosin Ammo from Coops distributor for about $5 cheaper. I ordered a spam can from them last month with no problems. Probably no big deal with Aim asking for id, but I would rather not do so and will give business to companies that I feel comfortable dealing with.

    Thanks again.

AIM has had that policy for years.

About 8 years ago I called to ask how to go about ordering/getting them my ID - faxed my DL and and that was that. They are great to deal with and a pleasure to speak to on the phone - very helpful.

I don't order a LOT of ammo online, but of the 6 or so places I have purchased from, they are the only ones with that requirement.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
