    Not going to quote everyone...

I have a wife and two young children, if a burglar sued me for causing him some discomfort it wouldn't be the end of my world....

If something happened to my family it would be....

I appreciate the concern, I really do, but the benefit outweighs the risk for me....

Heck, even cats can pick up on it. My cats know when somebody's approaching the house minutes before I know it.

NOT saying this is a good idea but a friend of mine did it almost 20 years ago and it has worked:

He was burglarized two or three times in a single year along with several other places is the neighborhood. So he made a habit of shooting in his yard at annoying hours around 00 am and 10 pm roughly. He did this regulalry at least once a week for a few months. He also carried a shotgun around the neighborhood while walking his dog.

Lastly he brought the shotgun and visited all his neighbors and told them he had a couple of shotguns mounted above every doorway in his house rigged to the doors so that if the door moved the guns would blow off the persons head who moved thedoor.

He hasn't had so much as a peice of litter in his yard since that period of time. All his neighbors are terrified of him... but word got out and there haven't been any burglaries in his community since then. The shotguns mounted on the doors wasn't even true but the neighbors believed it was and that is all he wanted.

Obviously this guy is a bit unhinged and is feared by his community... not what most people want... but his reputation is his best security system.

I've been attacked by a pair of German Shepherds. I was called out to a business to make a repair, I opened the warehouse door and got jumped by the dogs. I sustained minor injuries and still have scars nearly 15 years later. I can tell you that if I had been armed it probably would have gone differently. I don't think an armed burglar will hesitate to kill your dogs.

For a couple of pieces of ham my dogs will unlock the door for you and take you directly to the guns. Hell for a porkie roll they will help you open the safe and carry the guns to your vehicle , lol.

Dogs aren't traps. I'm also unaware of any case law precedence involving a resident dog biting a burglar - unlike with traps.
