What are the Reasons To Avoid A New Marlin 336
Thanks to all who replyed to my last
post in regards to the Marlin 336.
Some said in thier replys to stay away
from newer Marlins since Remington
now owns them and are not built to the
same quality as before Remingtons
Acquisition of Marlin. Please be specific
as to why. Are the barrels of lower quality?
Are they more prone to jam? Do they have
Problems with cycling? Ejection Problems?
Overall build and Quality Control? Cheaper
Components? Certain types of ammo issues?
And if all of the above being true then what
Specific Years are desirable ? And as far as
Knowing relative market value in the used
Market , what is the best way to to know when
You have found a desirable Used Marlin 336 and
What is the best way to not be taken advantage
In terms of pricing? Thanks In Advance

Re: What are the Reasons To Avoid A New Marlin 336
Supposedly when Marlin's plant was shut down and production moved to Remington quality control took a nose dive. There were reports of bad fit, rough machining, functioning difficulties, bad barrels.....etc. My understanding now is that those issues have been resolved and quality is coming back up. Check out www.marlinowners.com and jump into the forums there for details.

Re: What are the Reasons To Avoid A New Marlin 336
when Remington bought Marlin, and moved production, they left the workers behind, some of whom were 2nd and 3rd generation Marlin employees,
the new employees hired by Remington had little experience, and Remington insisted on keeping production at a very high level, the "faster and cheaper" business model led to unacceptable quality control issues for the end customer, including, poor fitment, with visible gaps between the stock and receiver, frequent jams, even while cycling the action unloaded, failure to feed, and failure to extract fired cases,
the customer service department did a good job of fixing problems under warranty, however this often required several trips back to the factory, before satisfactory results were obtained,
Marlin quality has steadily improved, they are not near as bad as they were immediately after the takeover, that said, the new rifles are just a shadow of their former glory, and the legendary Marlin quality is a thing of the past
