Re: Lubes...what are your faves
I really enjoyed many of the recommendations from posters on this forum. Benjamin Franklin once said, "Experience is a dear teacher and some will learn by no other..."
How fortunate that you've shared your experience for all of us. Much like a woman that fights gravity to the last day of her life with assorted surgical procedures, our battle is against corrosion and wear, eh?
In that spirit, I'm attaching a Brownells link entitled "Gun Cleaning Clinic: Knowing the Limits of Rust Preventatives."
In this "study", they tested the assorted products outside on flat steel plates for 72 hours all exposed to the same high humidity, scorching heat, horrific thunderstorms, and cool evening temperatures. They also included the pictures for each product immediately after testing and another for the same plate after degreasing to remove all loose corrosion.
Some here may think the results of this study downright apocryphal. Frankly, I was surprised at the results.
The tested lubes/rust preventatives include the following:
Birchwood Casey Sheath
Boeshield T-9
Break-Free LP
Break-Free Weapon Wipes
Brownells Cosmoline
Brownells RP2
Hoppe's Lubricating Oil
Rig Universal Grease
Tetra Gun Lubricant
Valvoline 5W-30 Motor Oil
WD-40

Re: Lubes...what are your faves
Since living in Texas,I have always used Tetra gun grease. Oils would evaporate too quickly for me down there, and I have just stuck with this grease ever since.
