Default Republicans - The Party of Assault Weapons and High Capacity Magazines

    http://www.courant.com/news/breaking...,4955466.story

Unfortunately, my kid goes to College up there. I do travel there often and have a CT LTCF or whatever they call it. I am not shocked at the self worth and we know what is best for everyone attitude that spews from that State. I guess the good news is that I have a 9mm pistol that holds no more than seven rounds in its magazine.

s Congress moves closer to acting on a response to the Newtown school massacre, Vice President Joe Biden will travel to Connecticut for a public meeting on gun control.

Biden will make speak at a conference organized by U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy and U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty on Feb. 21 at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

Billed as a discussion of how to reduce gun violence and protect children and local communities, the program will include national and local representatives from Newtown, law enforcement as well as mental health experts.

Murphy said Friday the event is not a debate about gun control.

"We are not envisioning this being a debate. This is a forum of people committed to change. We are going to have invited guests,'' he said.

"A lot of the focus in Connecticut has been on the state response. All of the hearings and sessions on the federal response have been in Washington. We wanted to bring the conversation about federal gun reform to Connecticut," said Murphy.

Murphy said he asked Biden to come to Connecticut and "he jumped at the opportunity … It will be really important for people to hear firsthand what the status of the gun debate is. There is some catharsis in having people like President Obama and Vice President Biden come to Connecticut."

"I don't see the passion for change abating. Very few Republicans have drawn hard lines in the sand," Murphy said. In the end, the vote in Congress "will come down to politics. Republicans will have to decide if they want to be the party of assault weapons and high capacity magazines."

Blumenthal, who attended a White House medal ceremony honoring the slain educators from Sandy Hook on Friday morning, said Biden will be in Connecticut to "energize and galvanize." He said the conference will include discussion of all gun violence proposals that are before Congress.

Biden's "visit is about the administration's determination to make real change happen,'' Blumenthal said.

The conference will take place in the Campus Center Ballroom at Western, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is open to the public.

Basically what I get from this article is that they the meeting is not for a debate, but to get an understanding of the status of the gun debate as long as the results of the debate is about change and taking away rights. In other words, "this is what we want, what others want does not matter, f u all and f the Constitution while we are at it".

So basically it's more of an anti-gun rally than a town hall meeting.

This is what happens when one side is dedicated to wiping the other out by hook or by crook and the other side going "Meh, we'll win this time, that's enough. Rah rah rah!"

Democrats can choose to be "the party of controlling the masses who are too dumb and irresponsible to be trusted with too much freedom", while the Republicans can be the party of "we know who the bosses are, and it's not the public servants in Washington".

Speaking as an individual member of the sovereign citizenry, I'd prefer to decide how best to defend my family, what I spend my earnings on, what I choose to eat, what books I read, what TV I watch, what charitable acts and spending I dole out, and what words I use to refer to illegal aliens and retarded people and drug addicts and Welfare sponges.

I'd prefer that we look less like North Korea, rather than more like it. That means we make up our own minds instead of being told what we need, and it means that our rights are not determined by what some sociopathic flake who was given self-esteem that was not based on good deeds or admirable behavior.

The Left has taken over our media and our schools and our charity, it's fostered dependency and being "non-judgmental" about people that do bad things, and when that all results in homicidally detached scumbags roaming free without having been raised by a nuclear family or having been required to fail or succeed, they now want to disarm the generations of bent youths. They broke these kids, and now they blame us, and their answer to flooding the streets with amoral monsters is to disarm their victims.

I'll stick with the party that isn't trying to create more victim disarmament zones, the party that sees "gun free zones" as the death trap clusterfucks that they are. The party that understands that if cops need AR-15's to deal with violent predators, then maybe the potential victims of those same violent predators should at least be allowed the courtesy of a fighting chance.

I will stick with the party that votes the right way of freedom and liberty and doesn't have to make it a big event. It's what should be and will be done and then it's done. No hoopla just done and onto the next problem. Why would voting for freedom and the Constitution need to be a big hoopla event like passing socialist health care reform and gun bans? Freedom is the norm and socialist health care and gun bans are the defeat of freedom to be reveled in by radicals trying to overthrow the wishes of the free.

Almost one in ten Americans doesn't have a job. "Labor Force Participation", a nice name for people who have a job, has fallen by over 5,000,000 people since 2009.

    http://www.heritage.org/research/rep...-the-recession

The number of Americans on disability has risen to over 8,700,000 people. That's more than the population of New York City.

The Social Security Disability Trust fund will go insolvent in 2016.

    http://articles.latimes.com/2012/apr...inute-20120424

Americans on Food Stamps have risen to historic levels. 47,000,000 Americans depend upon Food Stamps. While it's nice that people are not going hungry it would be better if they could get jobs and earn enough money to feed themselves.

The debt of the US is $16,000,000,000,000 Dollars. Under Mr. Obama the debt increased by roughly $5,000,000,000,000 Dollars, vastly more than the "spent" on Bush's tax cuts, the War on Terror or other "Republican mistakes". In plain English Mr. Obama and his friends in Congress spent money... to "Prime the Pump". It isn't working.

The estimated payments for Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare have risen to $222,000,000,000,000 Dollars over the lifetime of every American alive today.

Medicare will go insolvent in 2016. http://www.forbes.com/sites/aroy/201...uble-counting/

Social Security allegedly won't go insolvent but one wonders how high the taxes will have to go to keep it solvent.

The Senate under Democratic Party control hasn't passed a budget since 2007. This included the time that the Democrats controlled the White House, Senate and House. Apparently they can't agree to a budget or just don't think that budgets are important.

The President refuses to cut spending and has demanded higher taxes on the "most wealthy". At the same time just under fifty percent of the people who file income tax returns do not pay taxes.

If Congress had agreed to allowing the Clinton era rates to return for folks making $250,000 a year or more the earnings would be $160,000,000, about one tenth of the money needed to close the deficit.

American kids are dying in Afghanistan fighting Sunni radicals. The US Government under President Obama is sending fighter planes and tanks to the radical Sunni government in Egypt. We're killing and being killed in one place by roughly the same kind of people that we're sending fighter planes and tanks to in another place.

With all of this irresponsible Governance going on the Republican Party is going to become "The party of Assault Weapons and High Capacity Magazines"?

This issue of "gun control" reminds me of Nero playing his harp while parts of Rome burned to the ground.

Who are the Democrats kidding, besides each other? They've failed to grow the economy, they've failed to end Americans dying overseas, they've expanded violence in the middle east. More people are going hungry. More people are out of work. That Mr. Obama won the election in 2012 does not change these fundamentals.

The world will somehow be a better place if the Government can ban a class of firearms that are used less often to murder people than butcher knives, screwdrivers, fists and feet.... and the Republicans will be "blamed" for failing to make the world a better place because they said "No"?

Anyone else getting tired of the misplaced priorities of the Democratic Party? We ought to be working on putting America back to work, not this "Symbolism over substance".
