In your opinion (holster question)

In your all knowledgable and honest opinions...what is more efficient holster for in your vehicle: a steering wheel holster or a holster that can be strapped to the driver's seat?

I've had 0 expierence with any sort of vehicle holster as I only have ever used my OWB holster, but I've finally rec. my application approval for my LTCF which I plan to go and get tomorrow morning.

Planning on researching diff. holsters for while in the vehicle.

Or are all of the above less ideal holsters rather than just a concealed holster while driving? (for carrying around btw, I've been pointed in the direction of universalholster.com - seems very interesting)

I am against holsters for vehicles, but go to DESAntis holsters website and look at their Kingston holster, designed for car carry.

You may also want to check into a shoulder holster preferably a miami vice type.

I agree 100000% with the above post ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.

Car/truck holsters fail on so many levels.

A weapon for self defense needs to be on your person and in your positive control at ALL times.

Whatever you do, if you decide to remove it and put it in the vehicle, make sure it is secure from flying about in an emergency. (slamming the brakes/etc)

I don't use a vehicle holster, however, the Handgun World Podcast has an episode dedicated to carrying in a vehicle with a vehicle holster. I will let you do the leg work to find the episode if you want to listen to it. Just Google "Handgun World Podcast." There are archives of the episodes on the website.

It mounts to - or underneath - the steering column, like this one.



With that said, I would prefer something on my body, like a cross-draw holster or a shoulder holster.

I use this in my 4Runner if I'm on a long drive and want ready access to the firearm and have either no passengers or someone whom I trust. It's a Serpa QD mounted holster. Originally I had intended this to be easy to keep the firearm holstered when placing it here and just slap it on my QD mount on my belt, but the QD mount adds about 1/2" or so to the distance between your belt and the holster so I just picked up another holster.

I am not a fan of "off the body carry", especially in the car. I have seen what happens to items in the vehicle during an accident. I would recommend using your favorite form of carry. Buy a blue gun and practice clearing your seat belt and drawing. At a minimum, clear your firearm and practice "dry" until you become proficient in drawing.

Drawing and firing from a vehicle has many challenges. Drawing is an obvious one. Not sweeping your passenger or your nuts is another. Shooting through glass is a third. Practice and be safe.
