Oh, and for the record, while we're on the subject, public officials really seem to have a problem understanding the literal definitions of words lately I've noticed, including the word "literally."
In this case, I'm sure the "chief" didn't mean to intend his words being taken to mean his officers were going out and assaulting people with firearms, even though that was essentially what he was saying.
To offer another example, here in Philly we had a kidnapping of a little girl from a school recently.
During a press conference, a police official said the following: "We have been literally turning the city upside down looking for this child."
Does that give you any idea as to the poor grasp of the English language in certain segments of our society? I think so.

does this fool really beleive the garbage that came from his mouth? a gun is for what ever you use it for.
