Default Strange Question: Is it legal to trade a pistol slide?

So strange question. Is it legal to trade a pistol slide? Say I find an owner with a bi-tone pistol and I'd like to trade slides...Is that legal? I checked under my slide, on a few pistols...I have a number, but it does not match the serial number on the gun. Now, is it ok to trade out slides? Thoughts?

I don't see an issue. It's just a piece of metal.

The gun is the lower receiver

    100 % legal.

The receiver or frame is the controlled part.

That was my thinking as well...Just wanted to double check first. The numbering on the inside...That would be the build number?

Depends on the gun. Some guns match the serial # on all parts. Some don't. You might have a gun with replacement parts, etc... There's a ton of possibilities. But the ONLY number that the govt cares about is the serial number on the frame or receiver.
