Sig SP2022 vs P229

Looking at my next handgun purchase, and I am torn between two Sigs. The SP2022 in 9mm or the P229 in 40. I like the idea of the 229 in 40 simply because I'd like to get a 357sig barrel for it in the future, but is it really worth the extra money? I've held both, and both felt great in my hands, really very similar. I think the trigger made have been slightly better on the 2022, but the 229 was fineIMO. I'm looking for honest answers from folks who have experience with both guns. I think the 2022 is a nice gun, what would the advantages be with a 229?

I own both and to be honest i couldnt choose between the two if i were only getting one.
THe 229 is quite possibly the best SIG ever made, not much that can be compared to it, on the other hand the SIGpro has the best trigger of all the Sigs.

I would say if you need a carry gun get the Sigpro then save up some more for a 229.

I have. Sig Pro which I like very much. The only drawback (apart from the bulk) is the placement of the slide release. It sits very close to my thumb when shooting 2 handed, and if you just touch it, it will not lock back on last round.

Never had a hiccup with it. i use it to shoot steel league.

Finding a holster at aLGS can be challenging, but you can't beat the price. Mine was used for $350. Sig quality at a Taurus price

I had the opportunity to shoot the SP2022 (mine) and P229 (a friend's) side by side a couple of weeks ago, with the 2022 in 9mm and the 229 in 40.

Since I own the 2022 I felt that the difference in trigger was quite noticeable between it and the 229, with my own preference leaning towards my gun.

Other than that the only appreciable differences between the two were the rounds they were firing, with the 40 having noticeably more pop in the recoil.

You really can't go wrong with either gun.

P229 is all metal which will help tame the .40S&W, some. It's only 3oz. heavier, but any help you can get with mad fuck recoil of a .40 is help, indeed.

You can get it in .357 Sig, if you ever wanted to. I personally like the classic controls of the P229.

All metal construction, but at only 3 oz. heavier, not much harder to carry.

I own a 2022 in 9mm and a P229 in 40. Both pistols are thick, but aside from that, no negatives. My 229 is an Enhanced Elite with SRT. Personally, I prefer the 229 trigger over the 2022. Both are pretty good, though.

The P229 is an expensive gun and very well made. The 2022 is possibly the best value in handguns available. Before the craze, I purchased mine for less than $400.00. That's a tough value to beat.

Both have been perfect with everything from my handloads with plated bullets to full-power heavy hollow points. Both are also very accurate.

Curious as to why you'd want one in 9mm and the other in .40s&w. Doesn't really make sense.

I actually prefer shooting 9mm vs 40, however I am very intruiged by the 357sig round. I was under the impression that the 2022 wasn't made in a 357, and that I wouldn't be able to get a 357 barrel to convert the .40 2022. After a little more research, it appears that sig does make a 357 barrel for the 2022, so I would be able to convert down the road. I have found a good deal on a used 229 in 40, which basically ends up being about 100 bucks more than a new 2022, and I thought the 229 would probably be a better platform for the 357sig round. I've held both, and both felt very similar, however the trigger felt slightly nicer on the 2022, and I think I prefered the feel of the slide release on the 2022 as well. Has anyone seen or shot a 2022 in 357? Any concerns about the polymer frame holding up with this round? I am very torn between the two, because I'd rather shoot the 9 over 40, but I want the ability to shoot 357 down the road.

The SP2022 used to be available in .357 Sig, however, Sig took it off the market last year due to slow sales. You can still get a barrel in .357 Sig for the SP2022. I would not worry about the durability of the SP2022 in .357 Sig. It can handle the round just fine.

I own an SP2022 in .40 cal. I use it for IDPA all the time. I've also shot several P229s and had considered getting a P229 Elite before buying the SP2022. The reason came down to price, availability, and performance. The SP2022 costs half to a third of a new P229 Elite or otherwise. I could get the SP2022 whereas I had to wait until my LGS could order me a P229 Elite. And after shooting both I realized I liked the trigger on the SP2022 way more than the P229 with both the SRT and short trigger.

You really can't go wrong with either gun. I just prefer the SP2022.

I say get both. I haven't shot the SP2022 but I own and carry the p229 with the SRT trigger and e2 grip, and I love the gun. The single action with the SRT is awesome
