Hey, Philly would be great if the inmates were not running the prison. I love this town, just not the cesspool it's become. I fear, however, it is too late. No way a mayor who wants to clean up this city gets elected. Corrupt as he may have been, at least Rizzo (so I'm told, was too young), didn't take any shit.

I remember Rizzo. Rizzo is EXACTLY the man you want to clean-up this lawless and corrupt city. When that flash mob violence was going on two summers ago, Rizzo simply would've said, "End this shit" and the PPD would end it by any means necessary.

It's too bad because with the voting base and pandering going on in City Hall, no one will ever get voted in with that kind of 'clean up this city' mentality. Look at how places like Point Breeze are fighting district improvements.

To get back on topic, Philly's pols, esp Nuttless, love to decry violence and have no issues trampling on the 2A...but seem to ignore the 330 murders we're averaging a year, most of which are B on B crime, males 15-30 yrs old. As long as it stays in the "hood" and doesn't affect the nicer areas, no reason to upset the voter base. Typical welfare state politics...and I lean liberal!

Rizzo was a good police commissioner, not so good mayor. It was under his watch that the unique set of philadelphia's anti gun laws, which rizzo supported, were overturned by the Pa. Supreme Court under the required uniformity of state wide gun laws. Fingerprinting and long waiting periods for handgun buyers living in the city became a thing of the past. Rizzo was not happy with the ruling to say the least.

Philadelphia is a one party rule cesspool, but compared to new york's sullivan law, philadelphia is a walk in the park. The wealthy have become more of a factor in new york's population driving out the poor in many parts of the city which were once badlands. This factor is the reason for new york's relatively low per capita murder rate. Of course, the idiot bloomberg will give the reason of the sullivan law which was enacted around 1911. Actually the sullivan law has been around during good and bad times and has nothing to do with anything except to make the priviliged few gun owners feel like the city did them a favor. Most of the sheep in the city are quite happy with the gun legislation named after a crooked tamminy hall thief they jokingly called a legislator. The criminals actually complained to the democratic club of new york, aka tamminy hall, that many citizens were returning fire with their concealed handguns. Tim Sullivan could not tolerate that.
