    Question Charter Arms

    Strictly out of curiousity has anyone had any experience or any information about the Charter Arms company? I just have been looking at .38 revolvers and have seen a few and just got curious about them.

    Howdy. I have one of the new Charter .44 bulldog pugs. Fit and finnish is ok, not to Colt or S&W standards. The rubber grips it comes with are decent at helping with the .44 in a gun of that size. I am not sorry that I bought it, but I got it at a show used, 99% condition, for $217. I believe that retail new is close to $400. Not sure that I would pay that for it. Remember that there has been several incarnations of the company, and that the current company has nothing to do with the 70's versions.

    Charter Arms is a name that I have not heard for a long time so that may tell ya.

    Had a Bulldog .44 for a while decent gun. We spent some time on the trigger getting out the mill marks. I was very surprised how easy the .44 shot in the little gun. Why is it gone, really do not know.

    I'd skip em.

    I don't know the history behind them...just what I've seen

    The cylinders rotate freely in the direction they rotate during firing...they don't lock into place. You can literally spin the cylinders when they're closed.

    I've seen a lot of them that were REALLY out of time...I've been hit with shaving standing behind people shooting them...twice.

    They tend to have really poor trigger pulls.

    I'd get a S&W.

    Curious about Charter Arms as well;

    these negatives - are they for the recent incarnations of CA or the CA of the 70's? Or ALL the various lives of Charter Arms over the years?

    I've always had a fondness for the way their .44 felt, as well as their "Bulldog" 38/357, its just that I was not into handguns enough to spend on one back then.

    Try Taurus if price is an issue. They make a very good revolver and they aren't painful on the budget.
