Default Am I really left handed?

So I was at the range this weekend trying to get control of the SW9VE. I can barely keep it on the paper. With my .45 I do pretty good. With the .22 I can group in to a 50 cent piece.

So never having had any real instruction, besides what Frenchy showed me(Thanks), I was watching some videos on the proper grip. It said the barrel should be in line with the wrist and forearm.

So I did a little dry fire practicing and noticed something odd. My .45 is a Hipoint and has a rather fat grip, but when I hold it it falls in line with my arm. The .22 is a Ruger 22/45 and it lines right up. The SW9VE doesn't line up.

Here what's odd. If I twist my grip to get lined up, I can barely pull the trigger with my right hand. So for kicks I tried it left handed and it lined right up. And the trigger pull felt real easy.

I am left eye dominant, so is it possible I'm slightly left handed also?

If someone tosses something to you unexpectedly which hand do you raise first. Yes they both may come up but usually the dominant side reacts quicker and then the brain tells the other one to move also. That has been my experience anyway......

We teach beginners to shoot with the hand that is the same as the dominant eye. Sounds to me like you should be a left hander!

Some teachers try to make kids write right handed even though they are left-handed, around kindergarten and first grade. It happened to my brother. He is right handed now but he started left handed. I dont know if you remember back to that time but it could be possible. You could also be ambidextrous with a slight favoring to the left since you're left eye dominant. With a little practice I can do most things left handed pretty well...writing, throwing, shooting (yes I tried). Did you try any of your other pistols left-handed?

I'm no instructor but you should base your selecting lefty or righty on how well you actually shoot and not how the gun fits in your left hand vs right hand. Your left hand might be bigger so you get an extended finger for better trigger feel but that does not mean you are a lefty.

I had a fellow LEO in the academy could not hit crap. When our town qualified us the instructor was perplexed until he made him shoot Lefty and then he starting hitting the target.

Try shooting lefty and see how well you do with all your guns that should be the real judge.

    The easiest way to answer this question is;

Which hand to you whack off with?

    There's your answer.

Have someone else do it for you, best way...

All joking aside, shoot what feels comfortable for you. If you shoot fine with the .22 and .45 right handed, and shoot the 9mm better left handed, by all means go for it... Just remember to practice a lot and go from there...

I am right eye dominant, I am right handed. Every range trip I shoot an equal amount of rounds with each hand (not supported). Never know which hand I might need. Some days I'm better lefty, some days righty, but I get on target with either, 25 feet or less.

I have two 357 mag revolvers and a Kahr CW9, my carry piece. I always end the session with my carry piece.

I have the same problem that you do.
I am left eye dom but I am a right handed person. I learned to shoot pistols right handed and but it is in front of the left side of my body, left arm fairly straight. But I when I shoot a rifle it is left handed. Try shooting left handed and support the pistol with your right hand.
The truth shall set you free.
