SA TRP
About a year ago I sold my TRP 1911 and regretted it every day since. I finally found another one I'm going to pick up tomorrow and the shop said its "around" 10 years old. I didn't know the TRP dated back that far and can't find any good info on the "older" ones.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I know what to look for in used 1911s but don't want to spend TRP money on this gun of the GOOD TRPs started more recently and I can get a newer one for a few hundred dollars more. (If that makes sense)
Thanks!"you cant fight zombies with good intentions"

Re: SA TRP
How much is used TRP?
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Re: SA TRP
The older TRPs are highly regarded pistols. I would look for a serial number starting with "NM" and shy away from any "TRP" with the word "Brazil" on it, anywhere. I would also think very long and hard about a Dan Wesson or a Les Baer instead of a TRP but that's me.

Re: SA TRP
Older TRP with Ring Hammer was bad ass. Thats back when Springfield made them by hand at custom shop
You could actually see how they hand checkered the front strap(slight unevenness), and BTGS was MUCh better fitted then newer ones.
I love the Ring hammer. Something I plan to do with my TRP this year with refund.
In regards to above post with Dan Wesson or a Les Baer.
I have had DW CBOB. It was an excellent firearm. Tightly fitted, accurate, quality of parts which it used, and has that very classic no bling look. Loved it.
It was one of the BEST bang for back back when I got itshortly before the HUGE price jump across the entire DW line. I bought mine new for $849 back in 2008.
I still believe that DW is great guns. But with its new higher price, they aren't as special as it once was(VBOB is like over $2000 MSRP now?). For the money, TRP is still hard to beat.
I, however, saw a Stainless Specialist at the range when I was out with TRP few weeks back, and gent was nice enough to let me run few mags through it. I do believe Specialist is around the same price as TRP(around $1800 MSRP). If I see one in any of my LGS, I'm SOOOOO Buying one!
Les Baer guns... I have no experience. So I can't comment. But You can pretty much have them make it the way you want. thats cool. But then Springfield Pro can be had for $2400 or so...Last edited by Mity2; February 9th, 2013 at 09:19 PM.

Re: SA TRP
I have a TRP and a Professional built by the custom shop. The TRP gives me just about the same performance for about half the cost of the Professional. I have always had excellent luck with springfield products, and the TRP is one of the superstars.

Re: SA TRP
ok so the gun is a NM code, but is NOT the one with the hammer Mity posted, it felt nice and tight and apparently had the action done. i spent 3 hours at the shop because the guy who quoted me $1000 was out today and unreachable and the shop owner said he wanted $1100 for it, i was tempted to just pay the $1100 and be done with it, but as this wasn't a planned purchase i figured i'd hold out for the price i was originally quoted.
hopefully they call me back today and i can go pick it up i hate wasting weekend days.
::edit::
i also think it had the adjustable sight that comes on the tactical which i find weird... it absolutely DIDNT have the standard sight on my last one.Last edited by cmr076; February 10th, 2013 at 03:43 PM.

Re: SA TRP
I'd go with the new one if you believe it has been worked on and you do not know who did the work. It could end up costing you the same as a new one in the long run. As far as being tight and feeling good, well, Colt is about the only 1911 maker, now, that builds sloppy 1911's. RIA, ATI, Girsan, Taurus, all build tight fitting 1911's these days and these are $500 to $700 guns. Nothing against the TRP that is pictured in the post, but no way would I pay $1100 or $1000 for that before I paid $1500 for a new, modern TRP with rails and target sights. It simply has too much more to offer for $400 more, IMO.
