Jenkintown Car Stop 2.9.13
Heard on the scanner this morning just before 5:00am, a Jenkintown PO request a check on "CCW # NN-NNN..". He did say "CCW". I didn't hear the beginning of the call, but assumed it was during a car stop. Everything sounded routine and there were no other units covering. The LTCF came back clear and valid until 2017 and then the PO asks county to check the serial number of the firearm. Gave the make as a Taurus, didn't hear him mention the model. Assumption here is that the subject was disarmed in order to obtain the serial number. County said the State Police likely made an error in the database as it came back as a .380 and not what the officer had indicated. Drifted off and didn't hear the outcome.
If this was a routine car stop, it does not sound like a good encounter. Anyone care to fill in the blanks?

Sounds like the gun was discharged for some reason.

It's unfortunately not uncommon in Montgomery County for police to run firearms against the sales database to check for registration. I even heard a Bushmaster being run before.
Hafa Adai! IANAL I merely state my opinion. If I am wrong, please correct me.

Seriously? Once I have a CCW to show, I expect NOT to be harassed by police for carrying in my car. Whats the point of the license if you're going to be treated as a criminal.

Sounds like he was running the gun to see if it was reported stolen. Here in NY handguns are registered by serial to their owner but since you guys don't have that in PA that's the only thing I can think of they'd be doing running a serial number.

Hmmm.. Wonder if he'd do that to check on that Rolex on the wrist - to see if it was stolen...
