I mailed my Form 1 in on 4/19/11, they cashed the check today. I see in some of the older post's it is referenced to make the check out to Dept. of Treasury. I made mine out to BATFE, there were no issues in doing so.

I wrote my check out to BAFTE when doing my last form 4 earlier this year and had no problems either...

Thanks to this thread, I just mailed off my form 1 and associated paperwork this morning.

I used the online forms on the AFT's web site and filled them in electronically then printed them off, printing both sides. The cards came in the mail.

My CLEO signed off this week and my receiver came back from Orion on Thursday.
Orion estimated 4 weeks but it only took 9 days. I chose Orion because of the reviews and because they engrave in the trigger guard.

Now I have time to decide how to build the SBR while i wait.

OK, this is probably a series stupid questions, but I just spent the last two hours searching around to no avail.

I filled out all the forms and have a brandy new silencer that's working out just nicely on my AR. The AR is custom, but nothing fancy... 16" barrel, QD for the silencer, etc. I'd like to start down the SBR path since the weight is just a tad too far forward with the 16" and the silencer, and well, because I can.

Given that, heres the question. Suppose I have a DPMS lower for my current AR with all their info.... 5.56 caliber, SN 12345, etc and I want to convert this to an SBR. Do I still need to engrave my name and city on the lower? Do I need to engrave a new serial number? And how do I fill out the Form 1? With DPMS information as original manufacturer? or me?

Thanks a bunch, the NFA posts here saved me tons of time the first go around!

Yes,you have to get the engraving done and you use the DPMS,original manufacturers info, Went through same thing when I registered a stag factory lower.

Ah, thanks a bunch! So what exactly do you need engraved on an existing lower?

Depends on how you are doing your Form 1. If as an individual than you need to engrave your name / location. If you are doing it as a trust or corp then you need to engrave said name of them and location.

My form 1 said to make the check or money order out to "Department of the Justice". Anyone else do this?

That is correct. Just follow the instructions on the form to the 't'.
