Buying a shotgun for someone else.
First, sorry if this is in the wrong place!
Now, I'm getting married this coming July, and my fiance and I have been going back and forth on what to buy each other as a "wedding gift" and rather than a typical watch or something...I decided to throw her a curve ball and told her to get me a 12ga pump (mossberg most likely).
My question is, how would that work...does it work the same when buying a shotgun as buying a pistol i.e. I had to have my pistol in my name, would she have to get the shotgun in her name ($20 transfer fee) and then when giving it to me we have to get it put in my name (another $20 transfer fee)?
If that's the only legit way of doing it, then so be it...but I just wasn't sure?
Thanks for any info!

Re: Buying a shotgun for someone else.
No registration in PA and an FFL isn't needed for INTRAstate private transfers of long guns
You buy it and simply give it to her

Re: Buying a shotgun for someone else.
When you are actualy married you can give each other handguns as gifts also.
Some people just plain suck.
If you're gonna be dumb ya gotta be tough.

Re: Buying a shotgun for someone else.
There (supposedly) is no such thing as a (non NFA) gun "being in someone's name" in PA. This applies to handguns as well as long guns so a woman can buy a gun and legally just hand it her HUSBAND and say this is now yours with no transfer or paperwork involved (as long as he isn't prohibited from possessing a firearm.) Anyone can "gift" a gun to an immediate family member separated by up to two generations. i.e. a grandparent can give their grandchild a handgun or a long gun without going through a FFL to do a transfer. Same goes for grandchild to grandparent, parent to child, child to parent and spouse to spouse. So if your bride to be wants to buy a gun and give it to you as a wedding present, all she just has to wait until the noose, I mean ring is securely in place and you say I do before she does.

Re: Buying a shotgun for someone else.
Why don't you fill out the paper work yourself, then just have her pay for it?

Re: Buying a shotgun for someone else.
- yes, correct.
- Hilarious. Thanks for the info though!
- That was my original suggestion, however, the bride to be is insistent on actually handing me a gift...got to love her "passion" haha.
Thanks for all of your info, it's truly appreciated!

Thanks again!
