Re: Bobbed hammer for J frame
I'm not aware of anywhere to order a bobbed hammer, but if you take it to smith, he can bob the hammer, and even add some checkering to the bob, so you could still cock the hammer if desired.
I heard there is a good smith on route 8 on the way up to Butler, but I can't remember his name. I was going to take my 642 up to him to do an action job, but I ended up just doing it myself, and it turned out great.Stay frosty....

You could always look for a hammer shroud that will cover the hammer like the Body Guard style. Not really sure if they are in current production.

Hammer shrouds;

As to another hammer;

They have them but their site is giving me all kinds of errors at the moment.
If you have a local gunsmith that is well regarded you might want to give him a call, might be something he'd have laying around.
Uhhh, on second thought I might have one laying around. I'll shoot you a PM if I can find it.

You try the factory yet ?

They might be able to sell you a new hammer you can modify and still keep your "old" one ready to go
I'm sure you arnt the first guy that didnt want to carve on an all original pistol.
Good Luck

Yeah, but I think the odds of you finding a bobbed hammer for sale are pretty slim. You could buy that one and then have it bobbed to swap out.

Re: Bobbed hammer for J frame
yeah, I think Im getting that now.
Being so used to the modern pistol mindset I expected to find 20 different makers of aftermarket hammers and a plethora of parts and doo dads. Such is not the case, and if a hammer goes for $70 and is this hard to get then there is no way Im cutting mine.
