45 GAP
How popular is 45 GAP in Pennsylvania. I have one I want to sell and I'm trying to figure out if I'd be wasting my time.

Re: 45 GAP
Obviously I don't know every gun owner in the skook (schuylkill co.) but out of the ones I do know, not one of them owns that caliber. I looked briefly at it but before I got too deep in it I changed direction and went 357sig. got no advice for you, except post it here and see what, if any interest there is...

Re: 45 GAP
Put it up for sale. Someone will buy it. It's my understanding that it's being used by one of our state agencies down here, now, and at least one in PA uses it.

Re: 45 GAP
Ah, I just went with the easy way out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.45_GAP
Sure you want to sell it? It launches a .45", 185 gr projectile at 1150 fps. You gotta get hot 45 acp to do that. That's a pretty hard hit.Last edited by harold63; February 3rd, 2013 at 09:25 PM.

Re: 45 GAP
I think I'll trust my reloading data over wikipedia for reloading, which shows a max. vel. of 1075 fps when loaded to 7.5 grains of Longshot. I'm not sure how much more powder you can stuff into a short case like the GAP.
"Stock" 45 ACP (same bullet and power) with a load of 8.2 grains has a max. vel. of 1044 fps. If your gun can handle it, Starline makes the +p version of the acp case which should blow away the GAP when loaded to max. (+P load info isn't easy to find)
Don't get me wrong, the GAP has it's place. The shorter round makes for a grip more people can get their hands around and the standarf cap. for a G37 is 10 +1 rounds. I've actually been playing with the idea of adding a G37 to the collection.“When a man cannot chose, he ceases to be a man.”

Re: 45 GAP
I enjoy my G39 - nice caliber. A little pricey on ammo, but no where near 357 sig or anything. Sometime hard to find, but my lgs usually has it. PA State Police still carry it I believe. You shouldn't have any problem selling if that's what you want to do.

Re: 45 GAP
I only know one person who owns anything in .45 GAP. Only reason why he bought it is because that's what he was issued when he was in the PSP academy. He's not a trooper now, though. Apparently had an injury before graduating, and never went back. He did say that he really likes shooting that gun in that caliber.
I'm no means the end all be all on this. Just judging by the fact that there is a lot of people I work with that are firearm enthusiast, and he's the only one I have ever known to have one.
