AR friendly range, Pittsburgh?
Does anyone have any suggestions on a range/club in the Pgh area that is AR friendly? I'm not looking to dump 30rd mags or anything. No uncontrolled rapid fire. I'm looking to get good with my iron sights and dial in an optic or 2.
I let my Clairton membership expire awhile ago and I've been looking at PMSC. I know they have a nice facility, the price is right, and they aren't too far from my house.
I tried searching on this topic but most of the info I found was a little dated. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

If you shoot from a bench at 50+ yards, you should be able to shoot one just about anywhere. If you want to practice offhand at short distances, PMSC can't be beat.

Not a member, but from everyone that I have talked too, and everything that I have read - PMSC is your best option in the Pittsburgh area.

PMSC has traditional rifle ranges at 50,100,200, and 300 yards.
There are also several practical bays you can shoot pistol, rifle, and shotgun at they are all around 25-50 yards. A couple may be a bit longer but I never measured.
There are also an outdoor pistol range with steel setup, indoor pistol range, skeet/trap ranges as well as indoor and outdoor archery ranges.

If you don't mind traveling a little ways west....
I'm a member (and fan) of the Coraopolis District Sportsmen's Association.
The outdoor range is only 100 yards but has plenty of room for shooters, and the indoor range is open 24/7 with keyfob access. They are also the only indoor club range I've found besides PMSC that allows jacketed ammo!
I think they currently have a few memberships left open..
Anyone that wants to check it out is more than welcome to send me a PM and we can go shoot!Last edited by tuxie555; February 12th, 2013 at 08:51 PM.

NewBomb: I'm in the same boat! I cannot believe that in a place like W. PA there are no public ranges that you can shoot an AR. Hell, there aren't many public ranges in general... Really kind of disappointing considering all of the stuff I heard and was told about Western PA before I moved here.
If I only had the cash to start my own!

You can fire an AR at a public range. 3 rounds at a time if you get a user permit or have a hunting licence. You can get the $30 permit instantly online though.
Look at PMSC it's worth the drive to east of the city.
There is a PAFOA/PMSC group shoot on the 24th of August.
