Weekend shooting
Scotia appears to be closed on weekends for now. Like many of you, this is the only time I have to shoot. So where do you guys go on those wintry days when you want to shoot and Scotia is closed?

Re: Weekend shooting
How far are you willing to travel? Lewistown Pistol Club and Mifflin County Sportsmen's Association are both accepting new members. Lewistown is currently $40 a year for an individual, and Mifflin County is currently $50 a year.

Re: Weekend shooting
The main ranges at Scotia (those inside the fence, like the 200-yard rifle range and the pistol range) are closed during the weekend in winter. But the two auxiliary ranges outside of the fence (toward the Grays Woods entrance) should be open during daylight hours. There are only a few firing lanes, so you might have to wait for an opening. But they are open.

Re: Weekend shooting
Find a fellow firearm enthusiast who has a camp. I usually shoot at my place or at a friends camp over the winter. Obviously my place is more convient, but I don't like to shoot there too much, don't want the neighbors to get their feathers ruffled...

Re: Weekend shooting
why not shoot at the two ranges outside the fence at scotia? I was there 2 weeks ago and there had to be 6-8 people shooting. Been there half a dozen times this winter all by my self. 2-3 hours of peaceful shooting.

Re: Weekend shooting
Where is this "aux" range? Can you get there from the Tadpole Rd entrance? I tried driving the whole way through Scotia Range Rd (Tadpole --> Grays Woods) entrance, but they had a barrier blocking the road. Can you only get there from the Grays Woods side?

Re: Weekend shooting
Yes, they are on the other side (Grays Woods side) of the barrier if you come from the southern (Tadpole and Gatesburg Roads side) entrance. They are the two pit-like areas right where the driveway leading to the main ranges and the warden's office branches off of the Scotia Range Road.

Re: Weekend shooting
I should also add that the barrier will be open whenever the main ranges and office are open. They only close it during nights, and on weekends (at this time of the year when they are not open 7 days a week).
