What are the local and state police carrying these days?
I think it's important to know what the LEO's consider to be reliable and effective - they stake their lives on it every day.
I'm thinking of getting a new auto. I'm a wheelgun guy, but I enjoy an auto too.

Re: What are the local and state police carrying these days?
if what I heard is true:
1) PSP uniformed officers issued weapons: transitioning to or have transitioned to Glocks in .45 GAP; previous sidearms were Beretta 96D's (stainless & blued) in .40 S&W not sure about backup/undercover weapons
2) Derry Township uniformed officers: Glock something-or-other in some-caliber-or-other??? never stopped to ask; might consider doing that since I'll be residing there for an indefinite timeframe
3) PA Game Commission: this one gets strange in the 'previous weapons' section: current salaried & voluntary deputy officers: Glocks in .357 Sig (both primary & backup...magazine interchangability requirement?); previous salried officers: Smith & Wesson 686 (4" barrel) in .357 mag w/ Safariland speedloaders; previous voluntary deputies: any .357 magnum revolver w/ 4" barrel & compatible speedloaders; not sure about salaried backup weapons, but voluntary deputies could ue whatever they desired as long as it was .357 mag, they provided their own speedloaders/Bianchi speed strips, and they successfully qualified with them 2x annually (I frequent a shop that is owned by a voluntary PA Game Commission deputy & we have chatted alot)

PA State Police issue Glock 37 and 38 in .45 G.A.P.
Model 37 for uniformed troopers and the 38 for plain clothes duty.

Re: What are the local and state police carrying these days?
My local dept. uses .40 cal. Glocks, replacing .357s. The officer I talked to liked the Glock a lot better that .357, but said he really wasn't into shooting.
I vote the second first

Definitely......they don't get to choose.....it's normally chosen for them...
Glock Pistols.......So simple a Caveman could fix them!

I know an Allegheny County officer that carries a Sig on duty but a Glock 27 off duty.

It is also a known fact that LEO's are not normally proficient with their sidearms. Unless you love shooting and visit the range frequently it really does not matter what you carry, you're not going to hit anything anyhow. Just because someone is an LEO do NOT assume he enjoys shooting.
