    Default Competition Gun

I'm thinking about trying some competitions. I'm not sure what is the best gun to use. I have a Taurus PT1911, a S&A XDs and am about to purchase a M&P Shield 9mm. What is a good gun to use for this. I'm open to getting something else I'm just not sure what works best.

Of what you have or plan on getting ... the 1911 for sure - with 8 round mags

The XDs would have you in CDP with other 45's ... its an 8 round (plus 1 in the chamber) max in the gun to start.

The Shield would have you in SSP and this category has a 10 round (plus 1 in the chamber to start) limit.

Of course if your weapon doesnt allow for full capacity within the rules, you can still use it ... you may just need to plan out reloads a little differently.

Personally, if I wanted to shoot .45 ACP in IDPA, it would certainly be with a 1911. If you wanted to shoot a 9mm, Id be looking at Glocks, M&P full or long slides, XDm's, etc

Hey Intense, if I would get a Para P-14, I would shoot in the CDP class even if it's a double stack correct?

But would I load to 8+1 or 10+1?

Yes CDP would be ok and you could only load to division capacity even if your mags can physically hold more. So for me, as my mags hold 17, I load 11 in the first and 10 in the other 2. That is, of course, unless a stage dictates less.

I'd recommend the P16 and shoot ESP. That way, you could also easily use the gun in USPSA Limited and Limited-10 divisions.
