Rock Island Armory
Any one have anything positive or negative to say about RIA? Im a Glock guy but i just love the look of 1911s... They seem like they are a pretty good bang for the buck. Now, i know there is a pretty big price range for 1911s, but this seems to fit my need for a pretty looking gun at a good price. I live in Philly and i have traveled as far as Tanners to buy a gun. Does Tanners, Locks, Delias, or Classic Pistol usually have RIA or any other cheaper 1911s for sale?(.45acp or maaaaybe a 9mm) Im pretty set on a RIA but i do appreciate your guys wisdom...
thanks
Jim

Re: Rock Island Armory
The RIA guns are the same as the Charles Daly guns, same as the STI Spartan in terms of cast frame and slide. Taurus is also a cheaper over seas manufacture. Truth is, all of them have more happy owners than people that hate them. I would buy a RIA if I wanted a 1911 and my budget was limited.
$300 to $500 and I would buy a RIA or Taurus.
$600 to $800 Sprinngfield or Kimber Custom II
$800 to $1000 Colt, Kimber, Springer, STI or Dan Wesson
$1500 + Les Baer or Wilson are my favorites, Nighthawk is also supposed to be great.
Buy what you can afford and what you like. Spend more time building your skill level and less time with what others think of your name brand 1911.

Re: Rock Island Armory
I most likely will end up getting one unless i hear something terrrible about them. I guess it would probably turn into a project gun anyway. Im not concerned at all of what people think about the name brand. I just wanted to know if it is an ok manufacturer. Im a full-time college student and work full time so money is a big option. People do over spend within there budget just to say they have an X when they only can afford an Y. Im not one of those people. Great deals are my thing.
Thanks for the input.

Re: Rock Island Armory
I've had mine since last May. Have close to 1000 rounds through it so far. Would, and have, recommended RIA every chance I've got.

Re: Rock Island Armory
I have an RIA and other than the sights (which I will be replacing) I love it. It shoots great, eats anything I give it ad was very easy on the pocket book. Highly recommend trhat if you can find one get it.
