Re: Anyone recognize M1 carbine barrel channel markings?
How is the JB holding up? JB works very well when it works.
I've used it for building up front sights and then filing to size/shape.
I once tried using it to hold a junk B-square scope mount on a rifle and it kept shearing off

Re: Anyone recognize M1 carbine barrel channel markings?
Can't say it has had much of a test. Only fired approximately a hundred rounds since doing it, and it had a small, very light reflex R/G dot on it. A better test will be with the much heavier red/green now on it, which I haven't tried yet.
The use of JB Weld (slow-setting...I believe it's stronger than the 5-minute type). I also roughened the bottom of the converter to give it some tooth.
If this epoxy fails, I'll drill and tap and screw them together. I've been thinking about doing it anyway. I really should, but I'm curious to see if it does hold up.
Mating surfaces were cleaned with acetone, followed by water, and dried prior to putting it together to give the epoxy every possible chance to work.
MarineTex may be stronger. I once used it to hold the magnets in an Evinrude 150HP flywheel which had become loose. Fantastic stuff.Last edited by Bang; May 28th, 2019 at 02:23 PM. Reason: corrected erroneous description

Re: Anyone recognize M1 carbine barrel channel markings?
I may have to look into trying some MarineTex.
I told you this was going to be fun , esp if you want the "who" made it part.
No wonder you went into forensics.

Re: Anyone recognize M1 carbine barrel channel markings?
Update on the perforated metal upper handguard with Picatinny JB Welded to it.
The cylindrical red.green dot device was too heavy, and recoil would pull the rear lip out of the recessed eyebrow arch of the receiver.
So I switched to a smaller, light-weight reflex red/green dot.
The rear of the upper guard still disengaged from the receiver, even though I have installed a screw that stops the bayonet clamp from sliding forward.
Yesterday, I found the guard had disengaged, packed it up, and went home. Later last night I looked at it and found it had re-engaged, perfectly and securely!!
WTH??? This is like there is a poltergeist screwing with me! I am about ready to drop the idea. :-(
Idea. Hmmm. I'm gonna try wrapping that sucker with black electrician's tape. Won't hurt anything, and just might work. We shall see.Last edited by Bang; June 4th, 2019 at 11:15 PM.

JB weld that lip. That'll do it.

Black electrician's tape wrapped around it fore and aft did the trick with the smaller and lighter reflex dot. Meanwhile, I've ordered a walnut upper to experiment with.
